Steven J. Rosansky, MD, is a nephrologist and internal medicine physician based in Columbia, South Carolina, with more than four decades of clinical experience caring for patients with kidney disease and the broader medical conditions that affect aging adults. Dr. Rosansky has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications on topics including renal epidemiology, the progression of kidney disease, and kidney patient survival. His landmark research on the timing of dialysis initiation — based on outcomes in more than 80,000 patients — helped reshape clinical thinking on when patients should begin dialysis, demonstrating that many patients live as long or longer when dialysis is started later rather than earlier. In 2011, his article “Early Start of Hemodialysis May Be Harmful” was voted the number one game-changing article in nephrology by Medscape Nephrology. He has been invited as a visiting professor at medical schools across the United States and internationally, and has presented his research at nephrology conferences worldwide. His first book, Learn the Facts About Kidney Disease, was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and brought evidence-based information about kidney disease directly to patients at a time when many felt isolated and overwhelmed. Through more than 50 appearances on the DadviceTV YouTube channel, hosted by kidney patient James Fabin, Dr. Rosansky has reached audiences worldwide with practical, plain-language guidance on kidney health, medication safety, dialysis decision-making, and broader medical topics. Readers and viewers consistently describe his work as making them feel less afraid, less confused, and more in control of their own health. In his second book, How to Live a Longer, Healthier Life — What Really Matters: A Science-Based Guide for All Adults, Dr. Rosansky draws on his combined experience as a general internist and kidney specialist to take readers through a system-by-system look at the aging body. Each chapter examines how aging affects a particular organ system or area of health — from the heart, brain, and kidneys to muscles, bones, hormones, vision, hearing, gut, skin, and immunity — and lays out what the evidence shows about the best ways to prevent or manage the common medical issues that arise along the way. He also covers exercise, nutrition, weight-loss medications, diabetes reversal, cancer prevention, mental health, and an honest evaluation of the booming anti-aging and longevity market — separating the interventions that genuinely help from those that are expensive, unproven, or harmful. Across both books and his ongoing work with patients, his goal has remained the same: to help readers feel less afraid of aging and more confident in their ability to shape it. Dr. Rosansky is the father of five and the grandfather of eleven.
