About P T Saunders. www.ptsaunders.co.uk I'm a fifty-five-year-old ex-serviceman who suffers from PTSD as a result of my abusive childhood and my military service with the Parachute Regiment and other Special Forces units. I served in Northern Ireland and was also involved in the Battle for Mount Longdon in the Falklands War 1982, where I witnessed and experienced some very dark moments. In September of 2011, My PTSD made my life unbearable to the point that I attempted to take my own life. Luckily, I had a great GP who immediately arranged for me to spend a couple of nights in my local psychiatric unit. However, it was eight weeks before I was discharged. In 2014 my psychiatrist suggested that if I were to write about my life experience it may help me with the healing process. My first book “Cupboard Boy”. chronicles my early childhood years. My Second Book “Me and my Black Dog” is about my battle with PTSD, depression, and perfectionism (My Black Dog). It chronicles how my illness developed over several years and how it never really goes away. I liken it to a big Black Dog which sometimes casts a dark shadow over my mental well-being.
