MJ Cates was born in Ontario, Canada, and has lived in several countries before finally settling down in Toronto. Over the years, Cates has published many novels, and won several awards, under another name. But such achievements can also raise certain expectations of genre, style, and even subject matter. Although it presents formidable challenges for sales and marketing, the adoption of a pseudonym may free an author to make radical changes in creative direction, as in Into That Fire. MJ's next novel will be published in Fall, 2025--but it likely will appear under their real name.
