Jim Powell was born in London on 17 May 1949. In a varied working life, he has been Managing Director of a large London advertising agency, the founder of a commercial pottery producing hand-painted tableware, and now a novelist and academic historian. His three published novels are The Breaking of Eggs (2010), Trading Futures (2016) and Things We Nearly Knew (2018). His most recent book is Losing the Thread – Cotton, Liverpool and the American Civil War (2021), published by Liverpool University Press. Jim Powell lives near Cambridge, England, and – for most of the summer – in the Tarn, France.
