For me starting on this journey to business owner was daunting, I had all the usual fears, fear of failure, fear of losing face, fear of going broke, fear of letting myself and my daughter down, but I also had the added worry of failing because of my health. Equally though, my health was the reason I wanted to be my own boss, to improve it and manage it. I had a pituitary (base of brain) tumour removed in 2012, then radiotherapy in 2014 which destroyed the tumour but also the pituitary gland so I have (secondary adrenal deficiency) Addison's Disease too, but I am happier than I have ever been in my life! With Addison's Disease life has to adjust a little as my body relies on meds throughout the day to stay alive and various hospital appointments throughout the year. But, working for others became hard work - my dream was to be my own boss so I could manage my health. I started my business as a Virtual Assistant in 2016 and am now earning more than I ever have, don't get stressed (bf and daughter disagree - it's them not me!) and wake up every day excited to work. And this is why I published my first book, How to be a Virtual Assistant. Since it's release in 2018 it's become a multi-award winning bestseller, ranking above Simon Sinek, Seth Godin and Elon Musk in the Small Business Book category too! How to be a Virtual Assistant helps others start and run their own Virtual Assistant business. Because no one should struggle in life and work need not be hard. Then in late 2019 I had the news that the tumour was back for a third go. I knew that day might come, so I had always built my business to be manageable should life get in the way - working to my 20% Rule® amongst other things. After neurosurgery I had to take four months off - completely - to recover. I couldn't work. No way. I couldn't even scroll through my phone, without having a nap, for about a month. However, because of how I'd built my business I experienced no loss of income. I had a team, I had multiple income streams but more importantly I created a safe, sustainable, profitable business and now, I show you how too in my second book, The 20% Rule® - How to ensure your business is safe, sustainable and profitable. --- Voted Best Book for VAs in the Virtual Assistant Voice Awards Amazon bestseller in the Small Business and Entrepreneurship and the Home Based Business categories Mentioned in The Guardian – ‘How I Spend It’ Amazon number one bestseller in the Small Business and Entrepreneurship category Amazon number one bestseller in the Home Based Business category Listed one of ten best business books written by women in The Independent
