Brian O'Raleigh was born to Irish parents and raised in the English seaside town of Blackpool. After a troubled childhood, he emigrated alone to Australia at the age of seventeen, then spent much of his life as a wanderer — crossing continents, searching the world for purpose, belonging, and home. At the age of thirty-three, that search reached a breaking point when he suffered a mental, physical, and spiritual collapse. He was admitted to a clinic for several months, battling a depression that left him stripped of everything he owned and everything he thought he knew about himself. And then, one night in that clinic, he dreamed of an ancient sea captain — a wise old man who was both gentle and uncompromising. In the dream, the captain told him that every human being is born with a gift and a purpose. “Stop looking outward,” he said. “Look inward. That is where you will find the meaning of your life.” The old seaman warned that this knowledge is a responsibility — and that Brian’s obligation was to share what he had discovered through his gift for storytelling. That dream changed his life and became the spark that would one day grow into the Passage to Inis Mór Trilogy. Today, Brian writes novels infused with Celtic myth, the sacredness of second chances, and the enduring belief that every soul is called to remember who they truly are and why we are here. His stories invite readers back to the truth hidden beneath the world's noise — to a place where the heart remembers and healing begins. He began writing in 2005, and his first book, a memoir called ‘Waiting for Walter’, was widely acclaimed by the Australian Press. His second work, Passage to Inis Mór, a modern-day classic set on the Irish island of Inis Mór, was lauded by Frank O'Shea, literary critic for The Australian Irish Echo: "Brian O’Raleigh’s new book, Passage to Inis Mór, reminds one of the great Irish writers such as Sean O’Faolain and Benedict Kiely”. He now lives with his wife, Kadek, between the Republic of Ireland, Australia, and the Island of Bali, where he has built a home in the hills for himself, his wife, an Irish Wolfhound called Cuchulainn, and two spoilt cats whose names he cannot pronounce.
