Anjali Sastry teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, where she joined the faculty in 2001. She tried to leave MIT twice before, once after completing her undergrad degrees in Physics and Russian and later after getting her PhD in management. In the interim, she taught at the University of Michigan and worked at both Bain and Company and the Rocky Mountain Institute. Today Anjali is also lecturer in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She draws on systems thinking and business-based approaches to global health delivery, focusing on methods for improving medical and prevention services in low-resource settings. Over the years, Anjali has taught organizational behavior system dynamics and tried her hand at lots of experiments in teaching. In 2007 she founded GlobalHealth Lab, which has conducted 70 projects to improve processes, develop strategic insights, test business cases, and deliver marketing innovations for front-line enterprises serving low-income patients in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. She's also built on her teaching experience in examining innovation in business models for healthcare delivery in frontier markets, all part of her Groundwork Initiative for Global Health (see groundwork.mit.edu) Anjali is a Member of the Board of Management Sciences for Health and advises or collaborates with many organizations--including WonderWork, the MIT Trust Center for Entrepreneurship, the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation at the University of Cape Town, and various foundations and startups.
