In My Secret Life follows the adventures of Amelia, a freelance art and fashion model who also does adult content. She becomes bored of working for amateur photographers, and so she begins following them in her off time and taking pictures of them. She is searching for meaning in her life and her work, and is also trying to figure out what she wants in a romantic partner, after being single and focused on her modeling for many years.

When one of her favorite photographers dies, his wife Mia discovers that he had been shooting nude models without her knowledge and she sets out on her own journey to discover who he really was. Her paths cross with the model because of this, and then their stories continue to intertwine.

Rife with sex, drugs, and rock and roll, the tag line for this novel is: “Take a hit and follow Amelia on her strange trip.”

I went into this listen not really knowing what to expect but I ended up enjoying it far more than I thought I would. It was honest and human, even in its messier moments. I liked that Amelia was portrayed as flawed, curious, and trying to figure herself out without pretending to have it all together. I also liked that the story didn’t try to give neat answers. It just showed two women navigating work, relationships, and identity in believable and relatable ways. Overall, I’m glad I listened. It was bold, honest, and far more heartfelt than I expected.

I picked this book up not really knowing what I was getting into, but I ended up really enjoying how raw and personal the whole journey felt. Amelia’s search for purpose and connection felt surprisingly relatable, even with her very unconventional life. I also liked the twist of seeing things from Mia’s perspective and how their paths end up crossing. The mix of drama, emotion, and messy humanity made it hard to put down. Definitely a unique read..

This book took me on a much deeper ride than I expected. Amelia’s world is messy, bold, and full of contradictions, but that’s exactly what makes her feel real, you end up rooting for her even when she doesn’t quite know what she wants. What I really liked is how the story weaves her journey with Mia’s, showing two women trying to make sense of identity, desire, and truth in completely different ways. The vibe of the book is wild at times, sex, drugs, art, chaos, but there’s an underlying emotional honesty that keeps it grounded. If you’re into stories that feel raw, artistic, and a little unconventional, this one definitely stands out.
