This was a really good short story that encouraged a lot of feelings whilst listening to it. I’m impressed by how well Carrie was able to make certain characters of the story so very unlikable and how many were loveable

Note: I listened to this story for free as part of the plus catalogue. I enjoyed this novella in the Montgomery Ink series. In fact, I probably enjoyed it more than any of the first 3 books in the series (0.5, 0.6 and 1) even though I normally prefer full length books over novellas. I liked the characters of Callie and Morgan and found their dynamic worked quite well and was a bit different to the others in the series. Like her other books, I think the author relied too heavily on stereotypes and over the top behaviours for many of the “bad” side characters, and all the characters are prone to soap opera worthy over the top reactions to situations that could easily be sorted by pausing to think about things for 2 seconds before jumping to conclusions- but that’s clearly the author’s style because it happens in all of her books I’ve read (listened to). The narration continues to be very good. It’s certainly worth listening to while part of the plus catalogue although I’m not sure I would spend a credit/money on it.

I don't like age-gap romance (we don't need another media form to say only women in their 20s are beautiful) and then I'm kinda sick of the horrible mother angle (3 out of 5 so far) so alone 3 stars but as the 5th book now it's very repetitive. It was hot with a little bit BDSM but really just some light spanking so nothing to shy away from.

I am looking forward to the next book.

The narration is good.
