Depression Historical Fiction

Mary Patterson grew up in South Carolina during the US Great Depression in the early 1900s. She sacrificed for her brothers and sisters her education and her youth. She cared for, tended to, fed, and helped provide for her siblings.

A young man, born into a privileged New York family, loses them in a car accident. Young and wealthy, he needs to justify his existence during The Great Depression. Skilled in carpentry, he drives to the Gulf of Mexico, working on building projects all around the gulf with his peculiar friend and partner from Florida. Together, they travel, helping poor folks along the way, repairing their homes and their lives. Eventually, he lands in Galveston, where he stays to help rebuild the island after their first Great Flood, building an inter-racial school for the island's orphans. The chautauqua continues as an older and wiser man wends his way back to New York City.

Captain Scott Williams was a fisherman by birth, a devoted husband and became a hero to many during the Great Depression. During the fall of the stock market, millions were left with nothing, millions had lost hope. After losing his wife, Williams set out on his last fishing trip only to find comfort, not only on the open waters of the Atlantic, but in those he helped along the way. This is his story.
