Proving ghosts are real is something Jason Thomas had always dreamed of. Visiting the haunted places he’d been obsessed with since he was a kid, and playing amateur ghost hunters with his best friend Wade, is a passion that’s only grown. As the years passed, Jason's fascination with ghosts was too big to contain, and he'd drag Wade along to different haunted houses or hotels, always hoping to see an actual ghost.

Jason Thomas had always been obsessed with the ghost stories he'd watched on television from the time he was a kid. He'd always dreamed of visiting those haunted places and playing amateur ghost hunters with his best friend, Wade. As they grew older, Jason's fascination with ghosts grew, as well, and he'd drag Wade along to different haunted houses or hotels, always hoping to see an actual ghost.

Wade Rivers finally has what he’s always wanted, his best friend, Jason Thomas, as his boyfriend. Their first date, hopefully the first of many, starts out with a simple dinner, but Wade has a surprise in store for Jason. They end up at a haunted house exhibit for Halloween. Wade finds out that Jason loves investigating the paranormal, but he’s not as enthused about the other attractions. When they meet up with a fellow paranormal researcher, Jimbo, their fun night gets more frightening with each room in the haunted house.

It seems there’s a wealth of restless spirits needing a nudge to move on their way, and the Running Scared Paranormal Research team are anxious to help. Taking a job in Old Sacramento, Wade and Jason soon realize there’s a more than average haunting at The Hitching Post restaurant. Built over the old tunnels and hidden under many of the businesses, they find a world of spirits that have been forgotten. Until now.

Jimbo and Dean found their way back each other after many years apart, and they’re both excited to finally start a new relationship without the fear of the spirit world invading their lives. Jimbo, or James, as Dean calls him, decides it’s time for them to have a real date, and takes Dean to a local fall event. The beautiful weather, colorful leaves, and crisp air all add to the perfect day full of new experiences and time alone.

Wade was once terrified of Jason’s obsession with spirits, but now that he knows his own abilities a little better, he’s more than willing to go along with his boyfriend Jason on another adventure. But three? It was his idea to investigate three haunted locations in three nights, but not knowing much about the places worries him. After all they've been through, he knows he can trust Jason to keep them safe.

After waiting to explore Preston Castle, the team is finally ready to go. Jason begins his research on the many paranormal experiences recorded through the years and instantly knows this is not a typical haunting. Wade’s ability to see and interact with spirits has become something he depends on, but Janice warns him against the shadow people they’ll encounter. He questions whether it’s safe for them to spend time at the old reform school, but if anyone knows how to handle a haunting, it’s Jason. Not this time.

Its Christmas, and an invitation to a party is too tempting for Wade and Jason to pass up. When The Running Scared Paranormal Research crew realize its not just a party but a gathering of all the paranormal investigators in the area, theyre suspicious but excited to meet others in their same business. A mystery, a ghost, and a love story play out for them through the evening on board the riverboat docked in Old Sacramento where the party is held. After the party, Wade and Jason decide to take a big step in their relationship.
