The Folkloric Series

Same old sleepy small-town France. I spend my days serving patisserie badly to the outlandish crowd at the café, and writing folklore research papers that will never, ever be published. That’s until my clanger of a drunken hookup with the town’s hot new doctor, who turns into a hideous drac and eats Grampi’s favourite goat. Oh, and not to mention, a troop of ragtag fae storms my home, a fatal illness devastates the town, and a fae curse threatens Grampi’s life.

Grappling with the biggest decision of my life whilst fending off a goblin onslaught is my own special kind of chaos. It’s almost midsummer, the weather is baking, and I’m hot and bothered by Lucas, the fickle and much-too-attractive drac, who is insisting I train as Keeper of the Bounds between the fae and human realms. It’s an enticing choice, but I can’t deny the part of me that hankers after an academic-folklore career.

I've always known my partner has a dark side, but I've just discovered he's pure evil. I’ve fully committed to being a Keeper of the Bounds between the fae and human realms, but I have to admit, I’m struggling to trust my partner, Lucas. We really didn’t have the best start, not to mention he’s so secretive, and it doesn’t help that I’m unnerved by the attraction between us. On top of that, the bounds are splitting, the cracks of dark oblivion growing by the day. We have to put a stop to their expansion right now, because the consequences would mean the end of, well… everything.

Lucas is the problem. There’s always been a spark between us, but with everything we’ve been through in Grimmere, not to mention our close proximity in training each day, that spark has stoked to a blaze. We have to raise some boundaries—and pronto. There’s no way I’d risk our friendship and Keeper partnership by doing something stupid… again. But when we’re shown a vision of our shaky beginnings by a terrifying old crone who lives in a hut (you know the type), our mess of a drunken hookup that we’d conveniently blanked returns.
