After a global outbreak that threatens to decimate the planet, Australian scientists select a group of highly skilled young people to establish a sustainable island community built on the modern values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Lonely and homesick, Cam Mackintosh overcomes his anxiety and finds belonging, passion, and friendship in his new life before his dreams are suddenly ripped from his grasp. Sent hurtling on a journey of discovery, he finds friendship and acceptance when he encounters other communities like his own, but he is forced to make a decision.

Cam is content with his new life on Lewis, happily married and working as an active member of the community. As life settles into a kind of mundanity, Cam learns a shocking truth: someone he loves may still be alive. Compelled to embark on a monumental journey, he discovers the true value of family and loyalty in a bleak and challenging world.

Some cultures say the ouroboros symbolizes infinity. Others claim the snake or dragon depicted eating its own tail represents the cyclic nature of life and death. But just as Cam Mackintosh and Freyja Jorgensen's lives are experiencing their own rebirth, their sustainable community is threatened. The ex-lovers are unexpectedly thrust together again to defend those they care about.

For once, Freyja and Cam are blissfully happy. Living with their family and friends in their isolated and sustainable community on Lewis, they finally feel safe and content. Going back to their Gaelic roots, the group calls on the circle of protection and safety the Caim provides as their new normal lives resume. But when old acquaintances arrive with shocking news, Freyja, Cam, and a few trusted friends must leave their homes behind yet again.

In Norse mythology, Sessrúmnir is the goddess Freyja's hall where her chosen ones live in their afterlife. For the residents of Lewis, it is no different. Six years after the end of Caim, life in the sustainable community has settled into a sense of routine. But when children are attacked by an unknown enemy, Cam and Freyja must reunite to save their family and protect their children.
