Something is wrong in the west of Ireland. The first collapse looks like an accident. The first scream says otherwise. By the time anyone understands what’s happening…They Rise. From the author of the Escape from London trilogy (The Undead Presents). Within hours, the A3 virus spreads through towns, schools, hospitals and homes. Communication fails. Help doesn’t come. What begins as a handful of isolated incidents becomes a fight to survive. In Ballymote, ordinary people are caught in the first wave. Parents. Children. Nurses. Teachers. Friends. Some will run. Some will hide.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tyler Hayes, and I’m a fireman. Sorry to already disappoint you, but I’m not the person you think I am. My charming uniform and seductive smile have caused nothing but trouble, and my not-so-honourable reputation, which I used to be so proud of, has kept me away from the one person I wanted to spend the rest of my life baking cookies for; my sweet, beautiful, slightly crazy Miss White. I guess now I need to tell the whole story. At forty years old, following years of self-sabotage, I’ve suddenly found myself admitting that I know absolutely nothing.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Niall Kerry. I’m almost forty years old, and I’m drowning in something that begins with ‘S’ – it doesn’t quite seem appropriate to write it down here. After a lifetime out on a sports field, living as a champion – as someone who never had to ask for anything – I’ve suddenly found myself starting from scratch. I’m living in the middle of nowhere with my parents, I’m jobless, and I have a teenage daughter who hates me. Oh, and I have to try and regain the trust of everyone I know.

I’ve never liked lies. I’m an honest guy: I say exactly what I’m thinking without any filter. Without considering the consequences. That’s why people always think I’m an idiot. Someone who only wants to have fun, who never has any problems. Someone who never worries about the future. I’ve made my decision. I’ve chosen myself and left everything else behind. But what happens when karma comes back to turn your life upside-down? When you find yourself standing in front of someone who could break down all of your walls?
