John Knox was one of the most remarkable pastors, thinkers, and reformers that the West has ever known. Born in the turbulent era of the 16th century, Knox became known as a bold defender of the Christian faith who suffered greatly for the sake of the gospel of Christ and His Church. Yet, despite immense conflict with the Roman papacy, various kingdoms, and even his own countrymen, Knox made it abundantly clear that he would resist tyranny and obey God at every turn.

This little book is meant to be used as a daily devotional guide throughout the Christmas season. It is broken into five sections of five devotions. Each section focuses on one passage of Scripture that is considered verse-by-verse. The book is designed for use as a personal or family devotion tool. Each individual study has some questions to help apply the passage and each section has a text to commit to memory. As a bonus, there are several original Christmas poems in this work from my dear friend, Dr. Tom Nettles that I am sure will be an encouragement to you.

This book contains a defense of the idea that God’s rest on Day 7 of the creation week is instructive for people today. More technically, this book argues for the propriety of weekly Sabbath rest. This means that the normal pattern to be followed by humanity is a week, consisting of seven 24-hour days, six of which are spent in work while the other day is devoted to rest. Theologians would use the language of God’s rest being a “creation ordinance,” which is a term that many theologians use, but none have defined.
