Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky was born in Moscow on 11th November, 1821 to distinguished multi-ethnic parents from a Lithuanian background. His childhood years were at the family home in hospital grounds which also contained an orphanage, an insane asylum and a cemetery for criminals. The young Fyodor often disobeyed his father by talking to the ill in the hospital gardens. In 1846 he published his first novel ‘Poor Cow’ to great literary acclaim. As he began his next work he was arrested and incarcerated for treason and participation in the political and literary Petrashevsky Circle.

Story10
Set in the post-martial-law era of late-1980s Taipei, Notes of a Crocodile is a coming-of-age story of queer misfits discovering love, friendship, and artistic affinity while hardly studying at Taiwan's most prestigious university. Told through the eyes of an anonymous lesbian narrator nicknamed Lazi, this cult classic is a postmodern pastiche of diaries, vignettes, mash notes, aphorisms, exegesis, and satire by an incisive prose stylist and major countercultural figure.

In a bizarre twist of fate, Ivan Matveich, an unassuming everyman, is swallowed whole by a crocodile at a sideshow. Surprisingly, he discovers an unexpected comfort within the creatures belly, where he starts to create a cozy home. As he shares his thoughts on the world from this unusual vantage point, he unexpectedly gains notoriety. Meanwhile, the debate rages outside about whether to cut open the crocodile and free him, as the beast’s value as a sideshow attraction skyrockets with the human voice echoing from within. This captivating tale is among Jorge Luis Borges seven favorite stories,...

After his father's heart attack in 1984, Peter Godwin began a series of pilgrimages back to Zimbabwe, the land of his birth, from Manhattan, where he now lives. On these frequent visits to check on his elderly parents, he bore witness to Zimbabwe's dramatic spiral downward into the jaws of violent chaos, presided over by an increasingly enraged dictator. And yet long after their comfortable lifestyle had been shattered and millions were fleeing, his parents refuse to leave, steadfast in their allegiance to the failed state that has been their adopted home for 50 years.

Story2
Memoirs of a Real Crocodile Hunter is my true story—one of adrenaline, survival, and a life shaped by Africa’s wildest frontiers. I’m a UK-based author who has spent years confronting the most feared predator on the continent: the Nile crocodile. What started as a peaceful fishing trip on the Shire River nearly ended in tragedy when I came face-to-face with a massive croc stalking me through the reeds. That moment changed everything.
