Wanneer Maarten met pensioen gaat, begint dat helaas niet al te goed: zijn afscheid valt volledig in duigen en op de eerste dag verliest hij ook nog zijn bril. En na de eerste paar weken in een gelukzalige vakantiestemming te hebben verkeerd, doemen steeds vaker de zogenoemde 'eindfasegevoelens' op. In een verwoede poging dit te bezweren, plant hij zijn dagen vol met activiteiten: cursussen, vrijwilligerswerk, filmfestivals, beurzen, reisjes in binnen- en buitenland en een heleboel meer.
