Of course I always want my listeners to tune in every Wednesday for Barely Controlled Radio, but this edition will be one that puts me over the top through the airwaves. From NFL wide receiver to NFL’s “most hated” player to Mirror Ball Champion to Ironman competitor to television analyst, my guest has done it all. The sky’s the limit for this great man. I’m kind of sick to my stomach (in a good way of course) with all he’s accomplished, so let’s get to the behind-the-scenes radio show of the past and current life of the man, Hines Ward. We all as humans have much to be proud of with our many talents. This man, however, is living a life that so many of us truly have dreams about. Yes he's famous, but the things he has accomplished are extremely competitive and take some serious work. Let's get to the show as Hines Ward gives us exactly the insight we are looking for in a decorated radio show guest. Enjoy! For more background information, check out www.hinesward.com...

  • The Replacement
    Jun 24 2015
Being a professional athlete is an awesome accomplishment. My guest today is none other than Shaun Suisham, the current placekicker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I have nothing but nice things to say about this successful Canadian. Having known him for 10 years, we have a solid friendship, not just a common interest in kicking a piece of leather through some yellow poles. Shaun has some great answers and we have fun. Of course I had to give him a tough time by flashing my 2 Super Bowl Rings in his face a few times throughout the interaction. Tune in to hear Shaun’s opinion on topics such as how the game of football is changing and what is actually on his bucket list. Thank you for the support. These shows on the Variety Channel are getting better and are only going to get more interesting with my upcoming guests. Check out “my replacement” as he sounds off.

  • What It Do?!
    Jun 17 2015
LaShawn Maurkice Pouncey is a machine. He is a true football player. He is the best center in the NFL and world. I just happened to take a week in the Pittsburgh area to deal with some personal matters. Along the way, I caught up with some great friends who just happen to be old teammates. I miss the camaraderie for sure in an NFL locker room. MP is more than a football player. For those of you out there that think football defines this man, take a listen to the next 45 minutes or so. You’ll be impressed! Thanks again Maurkice and KICK ASS!

  • The Big Ending
    Jun 10 2015
I have a love for something that most people do not know I have. That something is the WWE! Many people knock it and call it the male version of a soap opera, but my personal opinion is that Vince McMahon is a true business genius. Today I welcome one of the current Tag Team Champions Big E of New Day to Barely Controlled Radio. Throughout this episode, I'll talk about Big E's childhood, his training regimen, his goals in the WWE, the insane powerlifting records he holds, and even touch on his college football career in Iowa City. To every great story, there are obviously obstacles and perseverance that play a huge part in development. Those on top of the mountain didn't fall there. This is going to be fun. I try not to miss a show of Raw or Smackdown. I bet nobody knew that about me. Either way you look at it, I'm excited to interview one of the new greats today. If I'm anxious, you have to be. Do not miss it, or you may get The Big Ending!

  • Best of the Batch
    Jun 3 2015
The list of guests and celebrities continues when Charlie Batch visits the VoiceAmerica Variety Channel and joins Barely Controlled Radio. I’ve known Batch for nearly 12 years, and I learned so much more about him in this 60-minute interaction. Have you ever wondered what motivated him to start up his “Best of the Batch” Foundation? How did he avoid being in the media in a negative light while in the spotlight for 15 years as an NFL quarterback? What chore does Batch absolutely hate doing? What’s on his “bucket list”? These are all answered as I get up close and personal with the man, the myth, and the legend…Charlie Batch.

  • Changing of the Guard?
    May 27 2015
Having Ryan Lochte, the face of international swimming, on my show was quite the honor. I had the pleasure of watching many swimmers compete (including Lochte and Phelps) just days ago in Charlotte, North Carolina. These athletes are hardcore competing at all levels. When I'm poolside, it is for the tan or relaxation. Today, after a brief advertisement and interaction from a close friend explaining her charity event Recycling Metal to Recycle Lives, I am honored to flip the gender and have two female swimmers that have been so successful at such young ages. Cammile Adams and Kathleen Baker, also of Team Elite, visit Barely Controlled Radio. I couldn't even figure out how to construct their bios because of all of the honors and successes. Listeners will get a chance to become more educated in swimming and also find out which of my guests is still in high school and which of my guests loves Justin Bieber (amongst other things). Swimmers deserve credit. That. Starts. Now!

  • Gratitude
    May 20 2015
Everyone has heard of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This organization grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Although similar in some ways and different in others, Charlotte, NC, has a version of its own called DreamOn3. Brandon Lindsey, founder of this nonprofit organization in November of 2012, gave me his four points for the creation and existence of DreamOn3...answering the call (from God), helping the kids, buying into conscious capitalism (money is important for survival, but it's not EVERYTHING), and protecting the dream (of the kids). Brandon has done a great job with this and in the process has become a great friend and someone I can lean on when the going gets tough. I've completely bought in to his and his wife's ideas and am looking forward to starting my own nonprofit in the near future. Tune in to BCR today as I have the pleasure of interacting with three young kids as they chase their biggest of dreams. This episode is a can't miss!

  • A Man of His Word
    May 13 2015
As Barely Controlled Radio rolls on, I've used quite a variety of guests, ranging from actors to swimmers to country music performers and songwriters. Today I add one more category to the list, NASCAR drivers. Brian Scott is a friend of mine that I literally watched his first ever NASCAR race in 2007. As our friendship grew, I got to experience what race day is like for a NASCAR driver, as I sat on his motor home with his family members. It was a great experience and one I'll never forget. The fellas and I had t-shirts made in support of Scott, and he must've felt it. He finished top 5 in that race at Lowe's Motor Speedway if I am remembering correctly. Scott is just a true warrior in life and on the track. I never heard any negativity come out of his mouth. From going out on the lake on his boat to going to races to now him being married, Scott has come full circle in life and has not changed a bit. Tune in to meet Brian Scott the person, the driver, and the father/husband.
