About this listen

Supernatural detective Jack Nightingale has always dealt with unusual - and dangerous - cases. When a serial killer starts killing victims using Witchfinder methods of execution, Nightingale is asked to help. As the body count mounts, Nightingale realises that the killer is on a mission of revenge for acts committed 400 years ago. And he and his assistant Jenny McLean are both on the killer's hit list.

It's been a long time

I have been patient, waiting for more Nightingale and I'm happy to say that this is a typical Nightingale story, full of murder, mayhem and spooky mystery. Loved every second of it. Can't wait for more Nightingale. Best part of this one is that it's back in the UK, a good move in my opinion.

It's set about 2 years after the events of Nightfall.

Nightingale back in the UK!

Great story, flawless narration as usual by Paul Thornley, Jack, Jenny and Mrs Steadman reunited. What's not to like.

So glad he is back with this new story.

I have been waiting for this for ages, so great to finally find out what happened to all them all, loved the story and narrator as always, looking forward to the next instalment, nice to see proserpine is still around too.

Great but

Great but not long enough, should have put 2 the same length together to make it a full length novel.

Most enjoyable.

Throughly enjoyed listening to this, only wish it were longer. It has left me wanting more for Jack and Jenny, not to mention Proserpine.

Such a disappointment!

Love the series and had high hopes for this book. I just would not bother. The story is pedestrian, obvious and has been done many times before. There is no character exploration; we learn nothing new about Jack, there is no gripping sub-plot or twist. I bet you can guess the ending before your coffee has cooled. Such a shame.

Easy listening but predictable

I enjoy Stephen Leather’s writing: it IS predictable but enjoyable and not too strenuous to listen to. The narrator is good and skilful.
