About this listen

Si Morley is bored with his job as a commercial artist, and his social life doesn't seem to be going anywhere. So when he's approached by an affable ex-football star and told he's just what the government is looking for to be part of a top-secret project, he doesn't hesitate. One night he steps out of his twentieth-century New York apartment into the winter of 1882 and finds a kind of Eden.

Critic reviews

"A cult time-traveling favourite… this one is pure New York fun." (Alice Hoffman, author of Practical Magic)
"One of the most important, and most moving, timeslip texts yet composed." ( Encyclopedia of Fantasy)

The author uses a lot of time describing the 1880s to make them alive. At times it feels too drawn out so that the story halts to a standstil. If you like seeing the time like a picture in your mind, you probably will like it. If you want action, this is probably not the story for you.

Somewhat long drawn out

What did you like most about Time and Again?

The descriptions of the location, they felt very real

What other book might you compare Time and Again to, and why?

Well it's a time travelling story, but not like any other I have read.

What about Jeff Harding’s performance did you like?

I have listened to many Audio Books performed by Jeff Harding and I think it fair to say he is brilliant, Characterisation, Pace, tone, what is not to like?

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The first successful jump/shift in time is exciting, it is all depicted as so simple, if it were possible you may be able to recreate.

Any additional comments?

This is a brilliant story, it really does bounce along at a fair pace, there is quite a lot of descriptive dialogue but it is relevant.

What a story

Couldn't leave this alone as I had to find out what happended to the two main characters at the end and how that would effect the present. Well described and atmospheric feeling to 19th century New York. Jeff Harding is also easy on the ear which makes the book an even more pleasurable experience.

Amazing story

An interesting tale with good historical background that makes you wonder. What is the oldest existing building in New York and what snippets of the past have I missed when I have visited there. The story held my attention wondering where it was all leading and even got me googling to find out more.
Jeff Harding was a good narrator with good characterization. An unusual book for me but nonetheless very enjoyable.

Makes you wonder ‐ what if .......

Hard work finishing the book as it feels a bit like cataloging artefacts for a nineteenth NY city museum. But you have to respect the detailed research undertaken by the author.

Hard work finishing but respect the research
