Summary

Grand Admiral Thrawn and Darth Vader team up against a threat to the Empire in this thrilling novel from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

'I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.'

Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn. Fierce rivals for the emperor’s favour, and outspoken adversaries on Imperial affairs - including the Death Star project - the formidable pair seem unlikely partners for such a crucial mission. But the Emperor knows it’s not the first time Vader and Thrawn have joined forces. And there’s more behind his royal command than either man suspects.

In what seems like a lifetime ago, General Anakin Skywalker of the Galactic Republic and Commander Mitth’raw’nuruodo, officer of the Chiss Ascendancy, crossed paths for the first time. One on a desperate personal quest, the other with motives unknown...and undisclosed. But facing a gauntlet of dangers on a far-flung world, they forged an uneasy alliance - neither remotely aware of what their futures held in store.

Now, thrust together once more, they find themselves bound again for the planet where they once fought side by side. There they will be doubly challenged - by a test of their allegiance to the Empire...and an enemy that threatens even their combined might.

enjoyed it, but not as good as the first

I did enjoy this book, but it wasn't as good as the first. I missed Eli vanto in this, but I assume he will appear in the third book. I wish there was more Vader and thrawn and less of Skywalker and thrawn, but other people may like that more. overall a good book and we'll read by Marc Thompson.

What could of been...

Great premise for a story, just doesn't deliver unfortunately. The last third of the book is really good, and the performance is spot on, however there's simply to much filler.

Needed two seperate books

I feel that the focus on two different timelines was a bit too complicated to follow for a casual listener, I barely remember the important parts of the book as I found myself tuning oyt so often from parts that just felt completely irrelevant to the story.

Maybe if it were split into two different books then yes, but otherwise it was a bit of a disapointment compared to the first of the Thrawn series. The first was brilliant, I really enjoyed it, but this, a little bit of a let down.

Not as good as the first

I felt like more could have been done with the combination of Thrawn and Vader in terms of plot. Good performance and score.

A great follow up to Thrawn.

Really enjoyed the second book of this trilogy. A lot shorter than Thrawn but no less enjoyable. Timothy and Marc really capture Vader's menace, coldness and ruthlessness. Only one complaint from me, why cant we have a female to play the female roles. Marc does a great Thrawn, Vader, Alien, stormtrooper etc but I cringe at his female voices.

Good performance but slow and slightly dull

A fairy good tale but not Timothy Zain’s finest work. Personally I found it annoying jumping between the two stories of Thrawn and Vader and Thrawn and Anakin. The pace was a little slow. As usual Marc Thompson delivered a good performance although not convinced his use of the Irish accent really suited the miner characters. Overall it’s Okay but not excellent.
