Summary

This book has helped thousands of women build their best bodies ever. Will you be next?

If you want to get lean, defined, and strong as quickly as possible without crash dieting, good genetics, or wasting ridiculous amounts of time in the gym...regardless of your age...you want to listen to this book.

Here's the deal:

Losing fat and building lean muscle isn't as complicated as the fitness industry wants you to believe. This book is the shortcut.

  • You don't need to: Spend hundreds of dollars per month on the worthless supplements, "detoxes," or "skinny teas."
  • You don't need to: Constantly change up your workout routine to get lean, defined muscles.
  • You don't need to: Waste a couple of hours in the gym every day grinding out grueling workouts.
  • You don't need to: Slog away at boring cardio to shed ugly belly, hip, and thigh fat.

  • You don't need to: Obsess over "clean eating" and avoiding "unhealthy" foods to get fit.

Those are just a few of the harmful lies and myths that keep gals from ever achieving the lean, toned, sexy, and healthy bodies they truly desire.

And in this book you're going to learn something most women will never know...

The exact formula of exercise and eating that makes losing 10 to 15 pounds of fat while building lean, sexy muscle a breeze...and it only takes eight to 12 weeks.

Here are just a few of the things you're going to discover in this book:

  • The 10 biggest fat loss and muscle-building myths and mistakes that keep women overweight, weak, and frustrated.
  • The three scientific laws of lean muscle growth and fat loss that literally force your body to get fitter, leaner, and stronger.
  • How to create flexible diet plans that help you transform your body composition eating the foods you love...and without ever feeling starved, deprived, or like you're "on a diet."
  • A paint-by-numbers training system that will help you add lean muscle to all the right places and get sexy, athletic curves...spending no more than three to six hours in the gym every week...doing challenging, fun workouts you enjoy.
  • A no-BS guide to supplements that will show you what works and what doesn't, saving you hundreds if not thousands of dollars each year.
  • And a whole lot more!

The bottom line is you can get that "Hollywood babe" body without following boring, bland "bodybuilder" diets or living in the gym. This book shows you how.

Awesome!

So good I had to buy a hard copy because it's full of AMAZING information you want to keep referring back to, so just making clips doesn't help, you need to:
Listen to it to absorb everything
Then buy the hard copy and highlight all the parts u will to refer back to in your fitness journey.
AWESOME

Excellent

Probably best to not get it as audio as I could have done with some of the information written down for me and to keep having to rewind the audio is more than annoying. Also the guy who narrates it can't always say his 'W's properly and pronounces it like the way Stewie says 'coolwhip' in Family Guy. But overall great book!

First half is top class, struggled with second

If you like the science (like me), you'll find the first half fascinating. The second half goes into specifics for diet and training, which I think would be better as a hard copy book because it's hard to visualise when listening to the audiobook. Overall though, some really good takeaways from this.

Stilted delivery.

I wanted to enjoy this audio book so much and was looking forward to being enlightened/educated. The extremely slow pace and stilted, almost robotic delivery of the information switched me off. I tried to just hear the message but disliked how any method apart from Michael Matthew’s method/opinion was completely dismissed. I just couldn’t take the slow pace of narration. I felt like I was a foreigner and he was speaking slowly so I could understand him. I couldn’t stand it and couldn’t listen to the whole book. Zero audio Charisma, maybe read, don’t audio book.

Cuts through the crap to explain what you need to do to look toned.

Very good explanatory guide to starting weight lifting for women. Also gives meal planning and other information. A complete plan. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is there is little information on how to manage diet if you are vegetarian or vegan.
If you only have a few hours to spare each week you can do this plan. The minimum requirement is 3 strength workouts on non-consecutive days per week reach of which will take around an hour.
Mike is very knowledgable about the science behind the strategy and cuts through the fake non-science out there too.

Fantastic Book

I used a coach who swore by this guy’s principles and it got me amazing results. I thought I’d listen for myself just for the science aspect of it and it didn’t disappoint. The only thing I will say, is that the narration is awful. ABSOLUTELY terrible he sounds like a robot and if you are new to fitness you’ll prob switch off. Just buy the hard copy - it won’t disappoint.

Love it but ...

This book has been my fitness bible for the past 2 years and I love everything Mike Matthews has put out so far, incl his supplements but I would plead with him to please leave the narrating to someone else. He sounds bored and robotic and his passion for fitness does not shine through at all, sorry Mike :)

Written and Read for a Man not a Woman

Would you try another book from Michael Matthews and/or Jeff Justus?

Perhaps

If you’ve listened to books by Michael Matthews before, how does this one compare?

I have not but, this one was good

Which character – as performed by Jeff Justus – was your favorite?

Jeff Justus read this like he was talking to a twenty something man, not a woman. It felt like what "Maxim" magazine would sound like on audio. Don't you want, strong, sexy, hot, and awesome hotness, lean, sexy, hotness? Well, I am going to tell you how to sexy up your work out... Something like that.

Do you think Thinner Leaner Stronger needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. This book provides a fundamental concept of resistance training and proper diet and supplements. This is definitely very sound advice. The production just doesn't work for me.

Any additional comments?

There is nothing particularly new in this book but, it is sound advice. The book definitely sounds like it was written for a man though. Perhaps the narrator is simply trying to "sexy" it too much but, this definitely sounds like it was written for a man, not a woman

"The Ultimate Female Body", but uses male examples

What disappointed you about Thinner Leaner Stronger?

I'm upset that this book was supposed to focus on "The Ultimate Female Body", but uses examples of 250 pound men trying to maintain below 8% bodyfat. These examples don't give me what I thought I was listening to - a book focused on women. And these examples cannot translate to the female figure! False advertising -- he's just reusing chapters of his male-focused book in order to sell to a different demographic. It feels cheap.

What could Michael Matthews have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

He could have kept to the promise of a book about the Female Body and used exclusively female examples!

A good book, but not the best for audio consumption

It does come with the kindle download which helps, but since I primarily listen while I'm in my car, it made going back to find the parts I wanted to see in the kindle version inconvenient. The principles in the book seem sound (I'm not far enough into my workout progression to say from personal experience yet). I like that he explains everything and backs it up with published studies as well as personal observation both of his own experiences and those of his clients. The ideas are expressed clearly, though not necessarily as concisely as some may like. Overall I liked the book and fully intend to incorporate the things I've learned, I just feel that perhaps you should get the print version if you have that option.

amazing fitness book

If you could sum up Thinner Leaner Stronger in three words, what would they be?

Best fitness guide

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

This book has given me all the tools I need to be my own personal trainer. It is better than a personal trainer because it provides you with the knowledge to be able to design your own fitness and meal plans, and then update them without requiring guidance from someone else. So empowering to be able to do it on your own! Your friends will ask how you did it!!!! This book is the best fitness secret!

Quickly dye that jockstrap pink! They won't notice

I suspect this is just rehashed content from the masculine counterpart of this author's other book. While I understand that many aspects of diet and fitness are the same for both male and female, this book is supposed to be specifically for women, but the content proves otherwise. At the very least the author or editor should edit the pronouns in certain chapters from he to she appropriately. I'm insulted that such a minor elements would be overlooked by the author or editor, or narrator. I appreciated some of the content, but was turned off and felt cheated as if the book was just given a new cover with little else changed, so the team can further capitalize on their success with the first book about building a masculine physique. For this reason, I don't recommend it and I wonder how much of it was truly intended for this edition and not just an afterthought or slapped together to make a few extra bucks.

I don't doubt that the author has knowledge on the topic, but I was underwhelmed and also bored after listening to someone read a fitness dictionary for two chapters. Most people who purchase a book of this nature know what a calorie is. It does not appear to be geared towards an audience that is new to nutrition or fitness. Further, that section had the potential to be fun infotainment, but instead sounded like you'd expect, someone reading a dictionary definition aloud.

The author didn't care enough to put even the most basic effort into this edition. Were they hoping readers also wouldn't care?

Comprehensive but pronouns are wrong

In several places, he use "he and him" instead of her. It makes me think that they basically copied and pasted information from the first book for men. Other than that, it's good.

Great and thorough view on fitness

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to anyone whether you are Fit or looking to lose weight or to get fit. This book is very inspirational and detailed and what is the most important it is very realistic as it doesn't suggest any drastic or science fiction methods but makes you rethink about the way you live eat and exercise

What other book might you compare Thinner Leaner Stronger to and why?

none of that I know

Any additional comments?

what is the most important is that you can have a dialogue with an author. You can send him an email and he will respond to you much faster than you think. So it's not just the one way teaching book its a two way conversation that will lead you to the success you are looking for

Concise

Most of the points i thought would be missed having opted for the audiobook vs. the pdf. Weren't. It summarizes the basics of a sound fat loss program without the dream promises of epic fast results, but a rather long term commitment that would lead to life long progress.
I especially loved the water weight part since the description fit what i went through to the t. I knew all along that weight lifting wont make me as a female bulky but always wondered why wasn't i shredded like fitspos i followed on instagram, but rather felt like i "expanded". Long story short mike explains that fat is the key here. I'm thankful that I know what I know now and am looking forward to the application.

I'm still on my first week so the practical side of it is still to be seen. Will update this review hopefully in a month or so.

Might just save your life, maybe.

I mistakenly bought this book as I want to lean up a bit then I found out it was for girls. I wanted to return it but the system didn't let me. So I listened on and found out this can apply to girls and guys. Can get a little technical and worth listening to a few chapters over again. I think I need to see the figures, hearing them don't rattle around in my head so well. I am a convert but yet to put Michael Matthews suggestions into practice. Just getting all my ducks in a row before I start. Jeff Justus has the right motivational speaking voice for this type of book and Michael Matthews research stacks up, well the little facts I did check seem to lead me to the idea he has done his home work. Liked the book and now motivated to give it a go.
