I randomly came across this book when looking for a new fantasy novel. I didn’t realise it was a YA (adult book) when I started it but that did not take away from the entertainment.

The blend of ‘real life’ and the fantasy setting breaks the book up and allows you to see the character growth in both Colin & Sebastian. It’s a story about friendship, self awareness/growth, overcoming challenges and these come across strongly throughout the book.

I wish this book was around when I was a teenager as I think it would have really called out to me, but as an adult now I can still relate to Colin/Sebastian’s journey.

The Narrator was superb throughout and made the story enjoyable and engaging.

I hope there is a squeal and I’ll definitely be looking out for more books written by Mike Hibbert!

I really enjoyed this story, it provided a journey about how a young person can use his imagination and knowledge of dungeons and dragons to help him overcome the pain of loss.

The story weaved its way through the adventures of both the fantasy and the real life struggles that the young Warlock faced.

I love the way the story ebbed and flowed.

I couldn’t wait to hear the next chapter of the story which I listened to while driving to and from work. It made my journey so much more interesting and having purchased the rest of the series in book format. I can honestly say I can’t wait for the series to be made into audiobooks.

This is so much more than a lit rpg. It is a heartwarming story of a young person navigating loss and grief, new surroundings, the hardship of starting over and the wonderful worlds and friendships that Dungeons and Dragons can provide.
The writing is warm and accessible, the characters grow in both of their worlds and the switching between characters and plot sides is seamless
Such a lovely introduction to these characters can't wait for more 😍
