Critic reviews

"Depend on the author of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and 44 Scotland Street novels to make even a Nordic Noir mystery delightful." (Newsday)

McCall Smith’s usual gentle wit and circumlocution. Not a deep and meaningful story - but lots to think about.

Was thrown by this book. The narrator is excellent and gives life to all the characters but it is deceptive in calling itself a detective book as no real detecting in the trades se happens. It’s more a series of conversations and reflections on life. Not what I was expecting but still an enjoyable listen.

Odd, certainly not a detective book!

These Swedish detective books by McCall Smith are excellent....and the narrator is perfect...just what I needed in lockdown.

Great listen

Another excursion into the gentle humour of the whimsical world of Detective Varg and his hearing impaired, lip reading dog, Martin. Beautifully read by Saul Reichlin, it is the perfect antidote to the doom and gloom of the current Coronavirus lock-down.

Perfect antidote to lock-down
