Warlock Nate Hawthorne just wants a cup of coffee. Is that too much to ask? Apparently. Because instead of precious caffeine, all he gets is cursed by a pack of werewolves who want to use him for his magic. Now the only way to fix the damage is a mate bond to a grumpy and oh-so-sexy alpha in the rival pack, who happens to hate him. This is so not how he wanted to start his day.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Story
Getting into the vampire-only detective unit was the easy part. What’s going to be more difficult is dealing with my new partner - an ancient vampire who keeps threatening to eat me. The unit has never had a human in it. Marcus - or, as I like to call him: Fangy McFangface - would really prefer to keep it that way. He’s grumpy, short-tempered, and broody, but I have a way with words, and I know he’s starting to like me, even if he swears he’s not.

Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. Summary
“As much as I felt bad for this Elisha person - God, my heart was breaking for the young man and all he'd been through - I was also angry. I'd left that pack in my rearview 10 years ago for a good reason.”
Matthias Longclaw is happy living his life on the back of his beloved Harley with his five best friends and brothers-in-arms at his side. The West Coast Wolves are a rare pack of alphas, made up of unwanted orphans and second-born sons. The packs they were born to may not have wanted them, but they’ve built a solid family of their own. They help where they can, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return, just helping to build a world they want to live in.
Then Matt gets a call from an old childhood buddy. He’s being called back - begged to return - to reclaim his birthright and save a life in the process. The problem is...to do it, he will have to take a mate. And if he refuses? The omega will die.
Torn between his duty to help others and his resentment of his old pack, Matt never expects for Elisha Whitetail to tilt his world and change everything. Can Matt and Elisha rebuild a broken pack while tending to a new love and a growing family while dealing with outside threats from neighboring packs
They’re wolves. Strong, proud, and willing to do what it takes when their community needs them...whatever it takes.
This is the first in a new mpreg series about finding joy in a hard world, building family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty heat that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it. Be sure to listen to the author's note at the beginning for possible trigger warnings.

Alpha to he rescue.
This is the first installment in the West Coast Wolves series. This is a series about Alphas who are not wanted in their birth packs, which have become friends and are a MC. Elisha is the omega for whom Matthias comes back to his birth pack.
There are challenges appearing for the pack and its leadership.
I read this book and have to say I enjoyed the audiobook even more. The narration brings more depth to the characters.

Great start of a new series!!
Any Susi Hawke's book is a must read for me so this one is not exception especially when I enjoyed thoroughly the ebook version. A very interesting plot about fated love and shifters, with wonderful characters, some angst, action and danger. Elisha and Matt's story started this incredible new series in a very high tone and I simply loved It! Of course, adding Mr Russo narration to this already amazing book, was the best choice because his wonderful performance, great voice acting and charismatic narration. I can't wait for book 2.

Awesome Story & Narration🎧 Fascinating & Gripping!
This book is awesome and the perfect start to a new series. The story captured my attention right from the start and held it all the way to the end. Susi Hawke is a gifted author with a brilliant mind, the world and characters she creates are fascinating and imaginative. I enjoy her writing style, her descriptive details bring you in to her story and places you along side the characters giving your a bird’s eye view of what they are seeing, thinking and feeling. She does a great job explaining the world dynamics and the hierarchy of the pack. Which is awesome for those new to the genre. I adored the main characters in this book. Matthias “Matt” Longclaw is an Alpha living on the road with other Alphas. These Alphas bonded and formed a pack of their own called the West Coast Wolves, they are bikers and nomads. Each has their own reason why do not have their own pack, Matt’s reason was his no good father. When Matt gets an urgent call from a friend he grew up with he made the decision to return to Lucerne Valley to answer his call for help, to save an Omegas life. In order to save this Omega he must claim him as a mate. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, some angst, action, twists, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt and emotional moments and some hot romance. Susi Hawke built the foundation to her new series in this book and I am looking forward to what comes next for the other Alphas and to hear more about Matt and Elisha. Thank you for this awesome story!
🎧📚🎧 And for wonderful the narration, Nick J. Russo a fabulously talented narrator and voice artist. He brings the characters to life, gives each their own distinct voice which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. His portrayal of the characters is spot on, he takes each role and make it his own. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all of the characters emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen🎧

Intriguing start to the series!
Overall ~ 4.5 Stars!
Story ~ 4 Stars

Matt is called back home so he can save Elisha, his uncle's pregnant omega mate, who is in danger of dying after Elisha's father killed his Alpha and left his own son to die. Unable to refuse such a request, Matt returns home only to find out Elisha is his true mate. Once he saves Elisha and mates with him, they need to take the pack back from Monty, Elisha's father, and avenge what he tried to do to Elisha. Unfortunately, it's not only him that is after them.
I really liked Matt and Elisha, they were really well-suited for each other. Matt, strong and reliable, who unlike his own father and uncle was willing to do whatever it took to make his new pack thrive and to treat Elisha as his equal and not just a baby incubator. And Elisha, who despite being only 19, was very mature for his age and very competent in handling a lot of the things needed to help settle their new pack into their homes and rebuild the town. Them being true mates means this is very insta-love, yet Matt made sure to make Elisha know he had a say in everything in their relationship and always treated him with love and respect, which I loved. Of course, Elisha and Matt having so much chemistry helped a lot.
Nick J. Russo has such a pleasant voice and he definitely brought all these characters to life for me. It was definitely better to listen to him narrating the book than it was just reading it.
There's some action and some bad guys, although there's also a lot of world-building, which wasn't quite as exciting, but was to be expected since this is book 1 in the series. Still, it was lovely getting to know some of the shifters in their pack and Matt's Alpha friends, whose stories I can't wait to read, and I hope we'll get to catch up with Matt, Elisha and their family in future installments. Recomendable!

An amazing start to a great series
This was a great start to a series that has a ton of potential. The gravity of the situation pulled me in from the start as a life and death situation took over Mat's life.
I didn't feel as though I got into the characters all that well with so much going on in the story, the history of the pack, the history of the circular family references, and the reason behind the mating and subsequent takeover, but I did enjoy the setup to the rest of the series with each of the alpha's finding their packs. I really can't wait to dive in to the rest of the series, starting with Lucien!

Great start to a new series
Susi is back with a great new series of the type she does so well. There's an omega in distress, and the alpha may be reluctant to start, but he soon steps up. Returning to his home pack, he finds out that things are even worse than he thought, but with the help of his fellow West Coast Wolves, he soon gets on with setting things to rights. Matt (Matthias) will protect what is his, including the omega in question, Eli. I love how this story sets the stage for the rest of the books to come. Nick J. Russo does a good job of bringing the cast of characters to life. Highly recommended for all lovers of Alpha/Omega stories.

How a pack and a world begin
There are lots of Alpha/omega and shifter books out there where the packs are already established, but this book takes us into the beginning of things where a pack is building their world. We also have characters that go well beyond just Alphas, omegas and betas which I found fascinating. I enjoyed Matt and Elisha as a couple and definitely felt the heat between them. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the Alphas in the pack find their mates. The Alphas is this book seem "lighter" than in some other books, by that I mean they seem to have a broader emotional palette beyond just the stereotypical Alpha. Kudos to Nick J. Russo for his performance in this book. He kept all the world building information accessible and interesting while clearly delineating all the different characters and making us feel what they were feeling.

Enjoyed it in Audio too
I read this book some months ago. I reviewed it then as a a sweet and sappy story that you just need in your life. I still stand by that statement. Susi does a great job of setting up this new mpreg world. I loved falling into it and meeting both some special Alphas and some adorably special omegas. I can't wait to keep meeting more of the guys in this world. And Nick Russo does an amazing job portraying the story line. Hoping we see more of these stories soon!!

The typical wolf pack has only one Alpha in the pack so I loved that West Coast Wolves was a pack of all Alphas. This nomadic band of brothers enjoyed a freedom of getting on their motorcycles and going. When Matthias gets a call from his former home pack, his life changes instantly. One thing that makes this book so good is the secondary characters are just as interesting and entertaining as the main characters. The continual growth of the pack was another thing that I enjoyed. I loved the omegas each had their own unique gift and it left me wanting to know more.
The narrator did a fantastic job of drawing you into the story by making each character stand out while bringing the story to life. I anxiously await the next book in this series!

OMG! This was ridiculously good!
Susi Hawke is my chocolate candy! I love all kinds of chocolate candy and some better than others. So a Susi Hawke audiobook is a what kind of chocolate candy is this one? This was the absolute best kind! The milk chocolate-covered cherries! Yum! This series is incredible! Having a bit of a darker edge than most of her other work, the triumphs in West Coast Wolves are just that much sweeter. In 'The Reluctant Alpha', we encounter a group of alpha wolves that are pack-less for several different reasons. Matthias Longclaw leaves the pack ruled by his abusive father to form a motorcycle club with other displaced alpha wolves only to get called back in order to save an omega wolf bonded to the last pack leader. Matthias finds out that his father was killed by the uncle in a pack challenge shortly after he left ten years prior. His uncle is challenged more recently and loses, leaving behind an omega that will die if he remains unclaimed. It is the omega's own father who kills the uncle, leaving his poor son (Elisha Whitepaw) to die a painful death. Matthias steps in to claim Elisha and challenge his father in a scene that had me cheering like a madwoman! I can't wait to have more of this series! Wow!

Not too bad
I enjoyed the story, Susi is a favorite author so of course I am going to enjoy it. Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t that good for me. He kinda made me feel disconnected to the story and I had a hard time trying to enjoy the book like I did when I read it.

I like this one even better
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Ms Hawke. The narrator was great. I believe I have all of her mPreg books and all of her narrators do a great job but Nick J Russo and Kurt Graves are my favorites so far.
This book is a great start to this new series. I wish the next book was on audio already because I have to wait until after work to read the ebook. I would have loved to listen to it at my desk. But c'est la vie. Such is life. I will buy the ebook for book2 for now.
Great listen and worth the credit.

Cherishing my mate and my pack
It’s always such a delight to listen/read Susi Hawke’s omegaverse stories. They are always sweet, angsty, funny and interesting. A lovely treat.
Matthias has abandoned his old pack and life and living a new life with his 5 best friends. They might be unwanted and unloved but they love, cherish and protect all those weaklings and abandoned shifters like them. When Matthias was summoned back to his old pack to inherit the pack, he definitely didn’t want to go. But if he doesn’t go back, an innocent life may perish in the process and all members of his old pack may perish along.
I love how Susi Hawke set up her omegaverse novels. We get all the good, tingly feelings here with sappy, addictive shifter love. And I like knowing that we might get the stories of Elisha’s two omega brothers and Matthias’ best friends. NJR did a great job narrating this story. Really loved it!

Enjoyable
The Reluctant Alpha is book 1 in the West Coast Wolves series. Matthias left his pack but 10 years later he's called back to not only take over as Pack Alpha but also claim the Pack Omega, Elisha, who was left to die. I enjoyed this story. It gave a good foundation for the series and I look forward to more in this world. I liked the way Matt's community welcomed him back. He's the leader they all need.
Narrator Nick J. Russo does a marvelous job.
