About this listen

Performed with duet narration by Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet!

My plan when I win a date in Vegas with my brother’s hockey star best friend? Poker and go to sleep early. Instead, I wake up with a ring on my finger and the sexy athlete naked in my bed.

But Asher’s my best friend too so we’ll get this annulled and laugh about this secret for years to come.

Trouble is our wedding pics went viral overnight.

Now everyone thinks we’re a real couple. We race back home, where I’ve just landed the big art commission of my dreams and he’s launching a sports charity so we need to look like we meant to tie the knot.

Easy enough. We’ll claim we’ve been secretly in love, while staying in separate rooms for the rest of the hockey season.

The last thing either one of us wants is to ruin a decade-long friendship by falling into bed again.

But I experience a new side of my husband at home. He cooks for me, encourages me…and buys me so many toys.

And, it’s more fun to share your toys with a friend.

We’re just enjoying temporary marital benefits.

Except, the more times he calls me his wife, the more I start to wonder if Asher was ever pretending?

And if my heart is ready to take the biggest risk of all.

Tropes: brother’s best friend, friends to lovers, marriage of convenience, marriage pact, he’s been secretly in love with her for years, forced proximity, my wife, pro hockey

overall a good story maybe just a bit long. I got a bit bored around half way. some of it felt a bit fake/forced almost cheesy, but the ending was good. Ashers mental health issues were well done and makes a change from the woman having them.

good listen.

Friends to lovers, well delivered!!! I was totally into Asher and Maeve’s story, the sweet development of their romantic feelings from the friendship they shared for so long and how it all came about.
Robert Hatchet was the perfect Asher, funny, caring and considerate. Vanessa Edwin voices the sweet and sassy Maeve beautifully.

The queen of the sizzling sports romcoms has done it again. The Proposal Play was a fantastic friends to lovers’ romance when Maeve ‘won’ her bestie Asher at a charity auction. Their date involved a trip to Vegas where they decided the ultimate adventure would be a secret wedding. However, when the groom’s not only a hockey star but fronting an underwear campaign with posters of him all over town it wasn’t long before their secret got out and since the last thing either of them needed was to look flaky, their adventure became a marriage of convenience.

In a fabulous slowburn story with a whole lotta sizzle and spice and not forgetting toys, the love between these two friends soon deepened into something more even as they struggled to keep things strictly platonic for fear of ruining the friendship that meant so much to them but as time went on that thin line between friends and lovers blurred. Laden with sizzling flirting and wickedly delicious banter, there was such a huge sense of fun and laughter to their relationship making Maeve and Asher my favourite couple from Lauren to date. With humour-filled, fantastic story telling and well-rounded secondary characters most of whom will be familiar to regular readers, this author has created a world you wish you could be a part of.

I loved the book for the Proposal Play but the audio took this romcom to a whole new level. Vanessa Edwin & Robert Hatchett’s portrayals of Maeve and Asher easily showed the true friendship and fun their characters shared as well as the emotional ties between them that only comes with a deep familiarity. Robert was a new to me narrator but after listening to him bring Asher to life here I don’t believe anyone else could have produced a better performance as the dirty talking hockey star who hid his anxieties under his sense of humour.
