Story
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

So long as it lay at Riva, the prophecy went, men would be safe. That was only a story, and Garion did not believe in magic dooms, even though the man without a shadow had haunted him for years.

Not an inspired performance, a wasted credit
Having read the Petaybee books some 15 years ago I thought it nice to hear the story again while being on holiday.
It was not a good revisit to a great story. The abbreviation was done badly, so most of the characters fell flat and the involvements between the protagonists were not easy to understand.
The performance was more of a loud reading of a story than the usual set of characters spoken with different voice tones.
Not a book I would ever to listen again

Great combination
I have really enjoyed the Petyabee planet sequence of stories. Marina Sirtis has a great voice one can enjoy awake, or listen to soothe away the overactive brain and find rest (when you know the story that well it's easy). I really enjoyed this . Unlike planet pirates the continuity works best especially with the character similarities. I recommend you at least try the sample :) I bought the whole trio :) shame there's the twins trio of books not yet sorted on audio.

Good book narration could be better
This a subjective review, I know the books having read them years and years ago, and the story is great. I don't know why but could not engage with the narrator of the audio book, not that it was poor but just didn't get on with the voice. I would try and find a version narrated by a different person

Poorly abridged so that it is confusing in places
I didn't read the info closely enough before I bought this, so I didn't realize it was abridged until I was listening to it and it suddenly jumped from one thing to another and then referred back to something that never happened in this audiobook (but did in the print version). This happened quite a few times. I had read the print version years ago and some of the parts that were skipped were parts that are necessary to the story. I think they seriously over-abridged this. Unfortunate, because I love Marina Sirtis's narration. I'm getting either the kindle or the print version so I can read this as Ms. McCaffrey wrote it and I won't be buying abridged audio versions of her other books after hearing how poorly this one was abridged.

The abbrighements of part one threw off balance and I found the ending of part two very unsatisfying. As of the time I write this I haven't worked up the interest to listen to part three. It's sad because these stories touch on some important themes.

How easy is the listening?
This is the first audible book I have partially listened to that is not easy to hear. I am not speaking about the quality of the voice. I am talking about the unevenness of the volume. It seems to vary. Played with my volume control, but that didn't do any good. I know the story, because I have read it a number of times, and I mostly like McCaffrey books. As I said before, this is the first audible book in four different languages that I have problems with.
Reading over this, I see I haven't done a very good job of describing the problem. Sorry about that.

Great story, but missing part of the first book.
I have read these books several times in the past and was very disappointed to hear that part of the first book is missing from the Audible edition. The chapters don't line up with the print books either. The end of chapter 7 and the whole of chapter 8 is just gone. I think the beginning of chapter 9 is as well. I had to go to the library to figure out what chapters were missing...
Disappointed as this is an amazing series.
