Summary
In The Perfect Block (Book 2), rookie criminal profiler Jessie Hunt, 29, picks up the pieces of her broken life and leaves suburbia to start a new life in downtown Los Angeles. But when a wealthy socialite is murdered, Jessie, assigned the case, finds herself back in the world of picture-perfect suburbia, hunting a deranged killer amidst the false facades of normalcy and sociopathic women.
Jessie, thriving again in downtown LA, is sure she’s moved on from her suburban nightmare. Ready to put her failed marriage behind her, she lands a job with the local police department, deferring her acceptance to the FBI’s Academy.
She is assigned a straightforward murder in a wealthy neighborhood, a simple case to start her career. But little do her bosses know, there's more to the case than anyone suspected. Nothing can prepare her for her first case, one that will force her to probe the minds of the wealthy, suburban couples she’d thought she’d left behind. Behind their polished family pictures and manicured hedges, Jessie realizes, perfection is not what it seems.
A fast-paced psychological suspense thriller with unforgettable characters and heart-pounding suspense, The Perfect Block is Book 2 in a riveting new series that will leave you listening late into the night.

Great story horrible narrator
The series is very intriguing, unfortunately the narrator is monotone and does not give the story justice. Also the author should have researched treatment for food allergies. The main character would have required an epi injection, no way an inhaler would help with the throat closing due to the severity of the allergy.

This is the second book from the Jessie hunt series. Following from book 1 Jessie moves back to the city to try and start over. She is now a rookie criminal profiler and is assigned a case that will make her feel she hasn't left the wealthy suburban life. This case shows Jessie that people are not picture perfect.

The block is hot
Like the previous book I have several issues with this one.
1. Jessie never worked out a day in her life and the process to getting into the FBI academy is so strenuous that I highly doubt that she would’ve made it in. Also, you don’t need to have a police background to get into the FBI as the author suggested in the previous book. I should know because my cousin works for them.
2. I’m tired of black people being described as African American and readers automatically have to visualize a black person as if, only dark skin people are African Americans. There is an entire spectrum of ‘African Americans’. We are not all dark skin. Also we are not all African Americans. I have yet to read a book that describes a white person as Caucasian American. A vivid description is painted in readers mind as soon as a white person enters the scene. However, when authors describe black people we’re all African Americans. Insensitive much.
3. The story about Jessie’s serial killer father changed from book 1 to book 2. The first book said Jessie was kidnapped by her dad and he showed her many videos of people he killed and then lastly showed her how her mother was killed. But then in book 2 her dad took both her mother and Jessie to a cabin and she watched her mother die and didn’t mention anything about the several days Jessie was kept there or the many videos she saw before her mom died. (Unless I missed something)
4. I’m tired of these prison/psychiatric visit and the serial killer Crutchfield knowing everything that goes on in Jessie’s life despite the fact that he has no connection to the outside world. Which leads me to believe that the female prison/ex army ranger officer is saying more than she should.
5. I figured out that Andy was the killer the moment she talked to Jessie and befriended her too easily.
6. Jessie’s visit to see her killer husband in jail just to tell him the divorce will be finalized in 2 weeks and him telling her he will kill her the next time he could and she having a panic attack right after which led her to call her psychiatrist was so uneventful and pointless.
7. She’s not a great profiler if she has to visit serial killer Crutchfield to get clues from him. In that case he should be the one working for the LAPD or for the FBI because apparently he’s solving these cases.
8. There’s too much Evidence that serial killer Crutchfield is either psychic, teleporting out of prison, or a guard is telling him something.
9. Jessie was on medication in book 1 and now in book 2 she‘s not even taking anything even though her life spiraled way out of control.
The book ended on a cliffhanger but I don’t think I’ll be reading book 3 of 11 in the series. But the book was well written.
