About this listen

Happy Birthday, Daniel. I was told not to send you another text, but I never was any good at listening. I love and miss you. I always will.

When I lost my partner of eight years, I felt like my world was crashing down around me. In order to feel some relief from the overwhelming emptiness, I’ve found myself sending him texts every year on his birthday, even though I know he will never answer. It makes me feel like there’s a piece of him still alive, at least in my heart.

I’m sorry, you must have the wrong number. I apologize for not responding sooner, but I was at work.

That is, until someone responds to my text. Jace is charming, sweet, and everything I could ever want. But how can I accept someone new in my life when Daniel’s only been gone two years? Even so, Jace starts to consume my world. It feels like I can finally breathe as he helps me understand that my life doesn’t have to revolve around my grief.

Soon, I find myself laughing again as he pulls me away from the hopeless cycle I’ve been caught in, and I love spending time with him, whether it’s playing video games together or discussing our comic book alter egos. But I still need to let go of this guilt and allow Jace to show me that I can love another without replacing what I’ve lost. Jace rewrites my entire world with every word and smile he gives me, and it’s becoming harder to not give in and hand him my heart. Maybe Daniel did respond after all.

The Last Text is a 37k-word novella about overcoming loss, finding hope, and friendship that leads to new love.

I think the story was better in audio format. I can't explain why, but I just preferred it that way.
Merrick is deep in his grief for Daniel when he texts him happy birthday. Jase replies and they start a friendship that eventually leads to more.
Jase us perfect. He goes at Merrick's pace and understands his grief.
Since it's an Alice Winters story, there is some humor, however it's very subdued.

Lovely

I loved everything about this! Funny, emotional, although just 4 hours long but still slow burn, and complete.

It was my firsr Alice Winters book, but not the last obviously!

Performance was first class! Michael F. I'll stalk you down.

A truly beautiful short story about love & loss, that had me laughing from start to finish. I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I started listening to this and only gave it a go because the narrator is a favourite of mine, but goodness me I binge listened to the whole book and loved every single minute!

A special mention as always to the wonderful Michael Ferraiuolo who never fails to breathe life into the characters he plays.

Fabulous writing, fabulous narration, quite simply fabulous all round! Enjoy!

Simply Fabulous!

Sending a last text to my dead boyfriend, I did this on his birthday, against my family's wishes, but I still felt the need. So this year, I sent another.

Then I received a reply, this had never happened before, so what should I do...

Such a great start to the story, and it carries on from there. A perfect love story but a hard road to travel.

Michael Ferraiuolo did an amazing job narrating this story, and I did speed him up on Audible to 1.20. This is normal for me.
