Summary

What happens when a snarky hit man and a by-the-book PI cross paths?

Leland
Being a hit man has its perks, but I never thought getting an accidental mooning by an attractive PI while he’s caught on a fence would be one of them. While it’s not exactly love at first sight, he’s captured my interest and won’t let go.

Suddenly, I find myself caught in a game of cat and mouse, determined to attract the attention of Jackson, the PI who should be my enemy. He pretends like he’s not flattered by my flowers and the mentions of my totally-not-fictitious blow-up doll, Randy (or was it Dandy?), but I know better. Why else would he be teaming up with me to bring down Hardek, one of the city’s most ruthless criminals?

Jackson
Even though the cops are telling me that the hit man is a notorious contract killer, I can’t help but admit that I’m drawn to him. He’s funny, charismatic, and attractive. There’s no way this ridiculous man can be the person the cops are after.

But when Leland ends up at my doorstep injured, I’m faced with a tough choice. It’s my duty to hand him over to law enforcement, but my heart has other plans. I want to keep him. To protect him. To be with him.

Though one question remains: Why in the world does the man have so many d*mn guns?

Contains: shenanigans on a swing that you would not find at a playground, a car chase that sadly doesn't have flips or explosions, a horsey ride sans horse, cuddles, an exuberant mutt, a suspicious chief of police, and lots and lots of laughs.

NOT for the faint of heart!

Audible recommended this book to me as one of those "If you enjoyed TJ Klune you will also like...", which makes perfect sense, because the books are VERY similar in both writing style, humour and weird characters. I laughed out loud more times than I can count, and pretty much listened to it at any chance I got.

I will add the same disclaimer as most of Klune's books deserve - this book is NOT for everybody. I absolutely loved it, but it is definitely over the top in places, and Leland could very easily get on some people's nerves. His and Jackson's relationship is a bit rushed in places, but ultimately works, and they complement each other nicely. The plot is not entirely realistic, but generally true to its own universe, so it worked.

While the first in a series, it's nicely self-contained, and could easily be read by itself - however, I will DEFINITELY be getting my hands on the next one sooner rather than later!

The narrator did a great job of keeping the voices distinct, and I was never in doubt whether I was hearing Leland or Jackson speak.

Loved It!

Hysterically funny throughout - the one liners and tongue in cheek humour will have you laughing for hours.. guaranteed!!

Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favourite narrators and excellently narrates this audiobook and injects the humour intended by the author.

So can’t wait to hear the next instalment if this one had me in tears and fits of laughter 😂😂😂

5🌟’s across the board and highly recommend!! 😁😊

Great Listen

I've come to the conclusion that Alice Winters is the reason I'm still single. Her writing and her characters, along with how there relationships are done leave me wanting that and only that for my future. Great book as always from my favourite author. can do no wrong in my eyes.

Hilarious

This is a well written funny book, lots of snark. If you can imagine the main character Leland as a Gay Deadpool then you will be very close.
I need to recommend this book to everyone who needs to actually laugh out loud when listening to this.
The narrator is wonderful with his character, I seriously smiled right the way through the book.

Fabulous

I'm not usually a big fan of audio books (why I don't know) but as I love the book version, I thought I'd give the audio version a go. It's fabulous and hilarious. Michael Ferraiuolo does an awesome job with the narration - particularly Leland. His Leland is exactly how I imagined him. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the 2nd one on audio.

OMG why did I wait to long to listen to this book?

5+++ OMG why did I wait to long to read (or rather listen to) this book Stars!!!

I've seen this book and its sequel recommended in lots of places since it came out, but one thing or the other always got in the way of me reading it. I finally got the audiobook narrated by one of my favorite narrators ever and since I got a lengthy break from ARCs, I decided to just start on it and it was my best decision ever, despite the loss of sleep since I couldn't fall asleep until 5am when I finally finished the book. LOL

Leland was definitely my favorite. He's such a fun, charismatic, all-around amazing character despite his profession and his upbringing (I was stifling my sobs at 2am when I was listening to how he became a hitman and I just wanted to cuddle him and make it better). It took me longer to warm up to Jackson, although I ended up loving him because of how he rallied to help Leland and defended him so Henry wouldn't turn him in. He really had quite the turnaround and I loved the progression, it felt realistic seeing as Jackson was such a straight-laced shooter.

While some of the scenes were more than a bit OTT, they just added to the charm of the story and helped Leland and Jackson shine individually and as a couple. I can't wait to have a bit of free time to delve into the next book, which I have waiting for me on my Kindle.

Henry was a great addition to the story. His father-son-like relationship with Jackson was lovely and I was glad he gave Leland a chance, even with their past history.

This is definitely a book you don't want to miss out on, captivating, fast-paced, engaging, action-packed and filled with fun and hot moments that will leave you wanting more, more, more! Add to it the fantastic performance by Michael Ferraiuolo, who did such an outstanding job with not only Leland and Jackson, but all the other voices in the book, and his knack for comedic timing and you definitely have a hit! Highly recommendable!

I just bought the next one in the series too..I don't normally listen to 'funny' stories but it made me laugh at times and I'm looking forward to starting the next one now.
