About this listen

In 2020 the United Kingdom reached a bewildering milestone: ten successive years of Conservative rule. In that decade there were three prime ministers, each in turn described as the worst leader we ever had; ministerial resignations by the hundred; and an unrelenting stream of ineffectual, divisive bum-slurry oozing from 10 Downing Street.

The Decade in Tory is an inglorious, rollicking and entirely true account of ten years of demonstrable lies, relentless incompetence, epic waste, serial corruption, official police investigations, anti-democratic practices, abuse of power, dereliction of duty and hundreds of thousands of avoidable deaths.

With his signature scathing wit, Russell Jones breaks down the government's interminable failures year by year, covering everything from David Cameron's pledge to tackle inequality—which reduced UK life expectancy for the first time since 1841—through the bewildering storm of lies and betrayals that led to Brexit, devastating education cuts, serial mismanagement of the NHS and Boris Johnson's calamitous response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will leave you gasping and wondering: can things possibly get any worse?

An excellent, well researched collection of evidence bearing witness to just how breathtakingly dreadful, incompetent and corrupt these long years of Conservative administration have been. Unfortunately, I found the rather childish narration tone, including the mispronunciations, a little irritating. The humour was okay, but didn't compensate for and sometimes even undermined the serious nature of what this piece of work reveals, not only about the politicians, but about those who supported them.

This book needs to be compulsory reading or listening to every person and schoolchild from the age of 14, to realise what this government has done to democracy and governance in this country. It is essential reading.
Over the past 13 years, the conservative government in the UK has faced significant criticism for their management of the country. Many argue that their time in power has been characterized by a series of disappointments, marked by lies and corruption. The government has been accused of misleading the public with false promises and flawed policies. Additionally, various scandals have emerged, highlighting allegations of corruption within the conservative party. These issues have led to a lack of trust and faith in the government's ability to effectively govern and address the needs of the country.
This book should be a reference book of mismanagement and corruption.

This is a superb listen, witty and shameful but not in equal amounts. Hearing the sad litany of headlines and events over the tory decade is like hitting Britain's head off a wall...continuously. When it is all put together in a single narrative it is relentlessly shocking. How a small clique in a major party can cause so much damage in a short time is a sad reflection on the dumbing down of a once proud nation.

Funny until the reality kicks in

A critical listen to the worst government in a generation should be played in schools across the country!
