Summary

Millions of people suffer from autoimmunity whether they know it or not. The root cause of most weight gain, brain and mood problems, and fatigue, autoimmunity can take years - or even decades - for symptoms and a clear diagnosis to arise. Through years of research, Dr. Tom O'Bryan has discovered that autoimmunity is actually a spectrum, and many people experiencing general malaise are already on it. And while autoimmune diseases, such as Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, and lupus, have become the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer, many people affected are left in the dark. The good news is that many autoimmune conditions can be reversed through a targeted protocol designed to heal the autoimmune system, 70 percent of which is located in the gut.

The Autoimmune Fix includes two comprehensive three-week plans: In the first three weeks, you'll follow a paleo-inspired diet, during which you cut out gluten, sweets, and dairy - the three primary culprits behind autoimmunity. Once the dietary changes have been addressed, The Autoimmune Fix focuses on the other causes of autoimmunity, such as genetics, other dietary issues, and microbiome.

Making the complex simple

Excellent cutting edge information that brings together many threads in medicine and nutrition together with agricultural, social and evolutionary realities to provide clear answers as to why drugs alone will never solve your autoimmune issues. A great blueprint for survival in our modern times; highly recommended

A life changer

I've had asthma and eczema since birth and have had what I now know to be sibo for the last 10 years plus. Listening to this audiobook has joined up all of the dots for me. Some of it was a complete revelation and has given me so much determination to take control of my diet and hopefully reduce the inflammation in my body. I can't recommend this enough!

Captivating

Incredibly useful health and dietary information that everyone should listen to. Many leaky gut symptoms and diagnoses were missed by my doctors and reading this book opened my life and lifestyle to a better tomorrow.

Couldn’t give 5 stars because author is repeating himself a bit too much, nice marketing tool for his practice+i was hoping to find a bit more research ref. on relevant topics

A difficult listen but worth the perseverance

As a recent sufferer of severe Psoriasis I am scouring all the literature I can to try and heal the condition from within as opposed to managing symptoms for the rest of my life and to avoid if I can the need for seriously powerful immunosuppressant drugs that come with their own host of issues.

This audiobook is an obvious choice given its name. The content is good and I learned a lot that I can take on board about the immune system, the gut and inflammation but unfortunately it’s no magic bullet. Whilst I believe the authors plan will have a significant effect, I don’t think it’s sustainable for the every day person with a life to lead given the lengths you would need to go to...perhaps if I don’t make any progress on my own it might be a last resort!!

The content, as with many of these books is aimed at the American people but it’s not a major issue. Other than brands etc... it’s mostly relevant everywhere. There are a few shameless website advertisements but the author never tries to sell you anything so that’s a plus. Overall though, it was just a difficult listen but I persevered to the end and I’m glad I did as I gained more knowledge of what’s going on inside and took away a lot of points to explore. The author is passionate about his topic and gives gluten a real hammering, probably rightly so...

Stating the bleeding obvious

The first half of this book drove me crazy. He just waffled on and on and on without getting to the point of what his therapeutic method (a strict diet without gluten, dairy, sugar or alcohol) was all about. I hoped the second half was going to be better but I have given up without getting to the end. As someone who actually suffers from diabetes I know that it is not a trivial matter of changing your diet and it will all 'go away'. I found this book not only unhelpful but so negative in tone that it made me feel more anxious about what I put in my mouth than I think is healthy. If he has a point and people get better from his advie, then good luck to him and them. In my opinion there are better books available for example Dr Sarah Myhill's classic on chronic fatigue syndrome, which really does work, at least for me.

Better than Expected

I listened to Dr Tom O'Bryan's talks before and was always struck by his ability to simplify complex topics. He always spoke in a simple, clear language. For this reason I wasn't sure if I won't find his book overly simplistic (I'm not a beginner to the topic). Again I was struck by his ability to simplify complex topics but also pleasantly surprised with the breath and depth of research he covers in this book. I learned a lot from this well researched yet approachable book.

Great book just missed a couple things

Excellent dietary advice. Approaches from a clinical view point without burying people with jargon. Enough to explain. Not too much to confuse.

The points missed

Dr O'Bryan...you're a Chiroptactor, at least a mention to the profession would have been an easy tie into the book and material. If the body is not functioning via the CNS properly, then we are already at a disadvantage.
Second...the restaurant section I disagree with. Restaurants provide a service and product. Buyer beware. If you have large dietary constrictions then if a restaurant cannot accommodate it is not their issue. They are not obliged to comply. If they can...awesome.

Great book, horribly voiced

Tom O’Bryan is brilliant, no doubt about it.
The book is sadly almost impossible to listen to because of the horrible over-acting of the guy to reads it.
Super annoying, should be re-done with someone speaking friggin normal

Incredible guidance

As I am just learning about auto immune conditions this book has been crucial to my understanding. My family history predisposes me for auto immune and in my late 30s I am already showing symptoms of arthritis. I want to thank Dr. Bryan and Dr. Bland for their work in this book. It does a great job of explaining in laymen’s terms the importantance of a healthy diet that benefits those who may be on the auto immune spectrum.

Excellent Book!

I’m an MD in my residency and absolutely loved this book! So much of medical education does not include training in nutrition. As I go further in my training, I’m learning medicine is a practice of disease management. Absence of disease does not always mean there is an absence of ailment. I’m so excited books like this one are being published for the public, encouraging everyone to take responsibility for their health.

This book also helped me personally with my own health! I’m active and thought I was doing my best to stay healthy. Since reading this book, I feel better than I have in a long time!
