About this listen

The Army That Never Was: D-Day and the Great Deception tells the remarkable story of the deceptions, hoaxes, and misdirection carried out by the Allies ahead of the most pivotal moment of the Second World War—the D-Day invasion.

The most audacious of these schemes aimed to convince German forces that plans to storm Normandy were a mere sideshow, and featured a fictitious army led by General Patton and furnished with hundreds of real-world dummy landing craft, tanks, and aircraft. New research reveals a hidden link with Britain's film industry, as the fascinating behind-the-scenes story of this dramatic gambit is explored in detail.

Full of fascinating characters from the US, Britain, and Germany, this compelling and propulsive narrative explores one of the most remarkable secret campaigns of the Second World War.

This book is solid and comprehensive covering the deception around D-day, as well as providing a general overview of different deception during world war 2. While a bit dry, it remains a factual and good read about the subject.

A good read about the deception around D-Day

One of the best books I have read in ages I was realy sad when i finished it , A hard book to replace, I was born in the south of England at the tail end of the war and this book brought to life the stories my parents told me of the soldiers and tanks every where .

Brilliant

Rarely have I come across an equal to the narration performance of this book. It contributed hugely to the already absorbing story. The value of the deception activities of the British war machine was obviously incalculable and extremely effective, as the story describes in detail.

Excellent description of the deception campaign during WW2.
