About this listen

The Angry Tide is the seventh novel in Winston Graham's hugely popular Poldark series, which has become a television phenomenon starring Aidan Turner.

Cornwall, towards the end of the 18th century. Ross Poldark sits for the borough of Truro as Member of Parliament – his time divided between London and Cornwall, his heart divided about his wife, Demelza.

His old feud with George Warleggan still flares – as does the illicit love between Morwenna and Drake, Demelza's brother.

Before the new century dawns, George and Ross will be drawn together by a loss greater than their rivalry – and Morwenna and Drake by a tragedy that brings them hope . . .

The Angry Tide is followed by the eighth book in the Poldark series, The Stranger From The Sea.

Critic reviews

Ross is one of literature's great heroes . . . [with] elements of Darcy, Heathcliff, Rhett Butler and Robin Hood (Debbie Horsfield)
From the incomparable Winston Graham . . . who has everything that anyone else has, then a whole lot more.

More gripping historical drama from the Poldark series. Oliver Hembrough is a master narrator bringing the story alive in true theatrical style. I look forward to the next audio-book, will it be soon?

Gripping Drama, fabulously narrated... Again

Revisiting the series, listening rather than reading this time I’m reminded how much I love these books. Hearing then narrated with all the different voices just adds to the story telling.

Brilliantly narrated as usual

I've really enjoyed all of this series, and this instalment has some strong story lines.

This is a great continuation of the Poldark saga. Reading the earlier Poldark books must be recommended to get the most out of this gripping new chapter in the lives of all the characters.
The Carne brothers both deserve a happy ever after to thier stories and this book answers that question for at least one of them. Loved this element of the story as you are kept guessing.
Caroline and Dwite don't feature that much but I think their story has run it's course - good supporting roles, love both their interplays with Ross.
Ross and Demela! Their ups and downs continue, his arrogance reflects the times so accurately. Love the London setting and Ross's antics their. Although him leaving Demelza' in a new environment to fend for herself, her getting into bother with unwanted male attentions to set Ross off is a bit familiar. But there are some new twists so didn't detract from the 5 stars.
As for George Warleggan - he continues to be one of my favourite villains. Just when you think he cannot get any worse he shows you how wrong you can be.
Elizabeth - I dislike her as much as ever but she does redeem herself on some levels with her interaction with Morwennan. Not sure I buy into the theory that having a second premature baby will be the key to convincing George Valentine was premature - lack of hair, nails, size, robust crying all attributed to that extra month. I wouldn't have been convinced, but then George never had been too bright when it comes to Elizabeth. But I say too much, don't want to spoil too much!
The Poldark saga continues to be a read/listen I would recommend.

Excellent continuation of the story
