Summary

"Dude! It finally came!" My roommate barely withheld his excitement as he barreled into the living room of our apartment with a package in his hand. "Check it out, Jacob." He smiled as he tore at the brown paper surrounding his purchase.

As he ripped the covering off the package, bits and pieces scattered all across the floor of the living room like confetti. For a second, I thought about lecturing Todd about not making a mess of our apartment, but who was I kidding? This place was already a shithole. At least some half-assed confetti would make it feel a little livelier.

My roommate was your stereotypical stoner archetype. Seriously, he looked like he belonged in a hippie van solving mysteries with a Great Dane. Todd's long, blond hair was always greasy and unkempt, and the smell of the sweet leaf reeked off him so frequently that most people just assumed he was using a hemp-laced cologne.

To top off his look, Todd wore a bit of scruff on his chin in the shape of a rough soul patch, as well as a t-shirt with the logo of whatever old-school rock band or metal band that he was currently listening to.

good first story but the narrator

hey good first story. manga esk style story that is exactly how you think it will be. it doesn't really go into great detail and has the market audience I think of a 15 to 18 year old boy. while it is fun and has a few Pop Culture references it's not the most well written or fleshed out. however give the author his dues it is his first book in the series. I must admit that some of the descriptive scenes are uninspired. the narrator towards the end of the book breaks down and starts laughing. this needs to be re edited.

LOLA!

it was a good, straight forward story ... a funny moment with Lola the car when the narrators broke character ... possibly an editing oversight but it made the scene more enjoyable

No, just NO!!

All characters are completely two dimensional. The main character is an utterly despicable moron. The succubuses are interchangeable, vapid sorority girls. The only character I ended up liking was the originally maddening stoner type. Apparently the succubus fall madly in love with the MC because he has the worlds largest member. Has absolutely no idea what he's doing in bed, but his magic d*** makes the women swoon at just a glance. The plot is just laughable. Insanely powerful beings defeated because they get angry and distracted that they don't have a magic d*** too. The line 'coolest guy in the universe' is used and meant GENUINELY! Not ironic or anything. I burst out laughing whilst cringing hard. Painful to listen to.

Good story, great voice work but...

Obviously the cover intrigued me, hell you don't see an image of scantily clad succubus without automatically thinking something perverted. However, whilst it is adult orientated there is much more to the story and it actually plays out really well. The only issue I have is that in chapter 18 there seems to be an editing error within it, where Christopher and Jessica actually break character and begin laughing. It was a bit of a shock when first hearing it and actually had to do a double take. Other than that the editing was good, the characters and voices were well done and the story itself was well spoken.

noice

I've tried a couple of eric vall audiobooks, and I think christopher and jessica are really good, not sure if I am getting hook by the story or the performance. speaking of which, I think there is a bad take when christopher starts laughing when the car dies.

Fun first book

Jacob is taken for a wild ride when his friend buys a book that has a spell to summon succubi. We get into the story and set pieces fairly quickly and the characters are thrust from conflict to conflict. The book actually went further than I thought it would, but it does come at a cost to push through some story beats faster. There isn't a ton of establishing time for Jacob and the succubi to garner the love and complete trust that they have very quickly, but this is something common enough in the genre. That being said this change allows more conflicts to be encountered and conquered by the ragtag band of misfits. There are a ton of fun set pieces from a battle in a hotel, a Mad Max-esque car battle and a horde of demons charging the heroes. The narration was great throughout, and the great time they seemingly had comes through (especially with a cut that was left in and you hear them crack up at the insane conversation the main character and his friend has). All of the main characters have enjoyable and distinct personalities and mesh together very well. Overall if you like the genre this was a fun little listen that sets up what can be an entertaining series.

Super Optimistic

The story kept me entertained and there’s a break in the reading where they laugh at what’s going on in the story that somehow made it through that I loved. I hope they keep it in the audible.

Not what I expected

I was expecting a novel with a solid story, that happened to involve succubi. This novel was about succubi, sex, and little else. The characters aren't really developed; the plot is extremely simple; the fictional aspects of the world are hand-wavy. I wouldn't say it's terrible, but it definitely isn't up to par with other modern fiction or harem-including novels. Minor spoilers ahead: The plot can be summarized as, "Protagonist wins by having sex and gambling". Parts of it sound like an extremely optimistic travelogue for a trip to a gambling resort. It has some entertaining moments, but is generally uninspired.

Cringey

It might get better past the first hour, but it was just cringey to listen to. it started out descent with a down on his luck guy, but 15 minutes in turned into 'perfect 6 pack abs and a dick the size even a sex demon marveled at'. if you start your main character being this physically perfect being, it gets boring really quickly, especially when all comments about the person are flattery. As I said, might get better later as a story develops, but I couldnt make it that far. I like my smut with a bit of subtlety, not shoved down my throat.

I honestly can't tell who this is for

With how all over the place this is, I feel like this book is uniquely qualified to be up there in the big leagues of pointlessly dull. Each of the elements in play here seem to invert the actual draw they would have. If it's supposed to be erotica the scenes in question are not just short, poorly described, and lacking in any depth. If it's fan service you're after, you have paper thin characters, which you could argue may be the overall point. However the servicing is overly mixed with the plot in question so haphazardly that it ruins any real pacing. If it's a fantasy you're after, while there after tidbits of lore here and there you're given only the bare bones in lieu of the super fun fun fun fun fun fun plot. If it's plot you're after, leave now and learn from my humble mistakes. There's some one else that can do a legitimate critique here, but I'm not it. The characters, each is underdeveloped and what's worse, they're completely bound by whatever the plot would demand. Again I could add depth here, but seriously if you managed to read this review just avoid this book entirely it's honestly just a huge waste of time.

Shallow and boring

Both narrators did a good job, too bad the content is lacking. Boring/one dimensional characters in a bland story. Explicit scenes are unimaginative with little detail. Look for these readers in other works... Skip this series

meh...

overall wasn't bad. If your getting a book with succubus in the title you know what your getting. mc powers are nice and well explained with enough room to fixes mistakes later. side characters were pleasant and would be nice to see where they end up. just wished the comings books weren't only 8 hours per book for a full credit.

Not good.

This is very not good. Uninspired story. Obnoxious cliche pothead sidekick. Zero buildup or development of MCs background or his relationship with the girls. It just jumps in without any pretense. And the characters make weird choices. And the powers make no sense. It is utterly impractical to have powers that rely on specific emotions like disgust and hate? Pretty dumb. How would you manage in a heated battle? There is even a point where the narrators break character and laugh, and they didn't edit it out. I would not recommend

Good premise, poor execution

I really wanted to like this but the plot felt rushed and shallow. I struggled to continue listening at points, but some how or another finished the book at a sluggish pace. The characters were bland and uninteresting. They lacked depth and complexity, Todd being exempt. He was fun the entire way through. The succubus just throw themselves at the protagonist for no explainable reason at all. The protagonist also accepts the situation far too quickly. He literally throws caution to the wind after his first sexual encounter, and falls in "love" far to quickly. It would have been much better if there were more twist and turns, more with character development. For example, the succubus could have been trying to USE the protagonist to gain freedom while caring little for his safety and wellbeing. Maybe even hold him in alittle contempt. Jacob on the other hand could have approached with more caution and hesitation only to grow more fond of his demonic companions as time passes. Each enemy encounter could have forged a stronger relationship between them that would supersede their distrust/contempt for each other. It just felt wrong for them to declare love within the first chapter or two. I did a spit take when I first heard it. Regardless it was interesting enough that I will check out the quality second book, before determining whether the whole series is really worth the time investment.

Ugh Gary Stu called.... he wants his character bac

I love the succubus myth. They were literally my favorite D&D monster, but man I just couldn't get past the cringe of this story during the first few chapters. It reads like an author jerking himself off to a vapid self-indulgent fantasy... which sounds great for him, but I just can't watch... hey maybe it's not that bad when I think of it that way... Anyhow some people seem to like it I guess. I couldn't get into it. It reads like middle-school D&D fan fiction to me, but what do I know. Good for you you wrote a book. Maybe it gets better.
