About this listen

Escaping Earth was just the beginning. Two days before a comet wiped out civilization, mysterious pods carried dozens of people to a strange menagerie inhabited by deadly specimens from Earth's past. Sierra Preston made first contact with an alien that had been observing humans from an invisible floating platform. The creature claimed the comet was sent by a race known as gorgers and warned that no one could leave the menagerie. Sierra isn't about to let that stop her.

The Preservation of Species trilogy continues in Struggle for Existence, a post-apocalyptic science-fiction adventure filled with unforgettable heroes, terrifying monsters, and heart-pounding action.

Again, a great story. Straight into the action with twists and turns galore. No one is safe, any thing can happen and this story keeps you on the edge of your seat. It was close to a 5 star but it’s just missing that something extra that the first book brought to the table, fantastic listen regardless and can’t wait for the 3rd book in to come out.

A great sequel to an amazing book

If you’ve listened to the first book then you know what to expect here as it doesn’t break the formula set by that book. If you haven’t read the first book then why are you reading a review for the second, go read the first right now.

This book pretty much continues from where we left it with the first book, quickly reintroducing the large cast of characters and the main events of the previous book in the first couple of chapters, and then it is on with the story. Where the first book was dealing with the main mystery, now that the mystery has been somewhat uncovered the second book moves more into action, although there are still a few discoveries to be made here.

The story moves at a good speed without any drag and the chapter ending cliffhangers are thrown at you one after another to keep you wanting to listen. As the group of character split up we also cycle through the separate groups, again keeping the tension going as we want to get back to see what happened with a certain group, and then of course wanting to get back to the resolution of the cliffhanger we were just left with with this group. A cycle of cliffhangers and action that keeps the pace roaring along right until the end.

Gore and violence persist from the first book and the author still isn’t afraid of killing off a character after building their part up. We learnt no one is safe with the first book and it isn’t going to change here.

The narration was great, keeping it all clear and easy to follow, and we are of course left with another cliffhanger at the end. I look forward to listening to the final book when it is released to see how it all turns out.

Received this book free of monetary charge to give it an honest review but it still cost me that most valuable currency, time, and electricity of course. So I listened to the whole audio with my currency of time, and electricity, and have given an honest review of what I thought here.
