About this listen

Sophie Arundel is stranded in history, stuck in a grand house in 1925 England. Thankfully, she has her faithful dog with her. Oh, and fellow student Hugo, fit, privileged, and annoying.

Baffled by upper-class rules, courted by boring suitors, Sophie is desperate to get back to the twenty-first century. But the only way home is through a hidden portal — and to unlock its secrets, she must work with Hugo.

As one clue leads to another, Sophie and Hugo discover that history is unfolding differently. Mobs rule the streets. And when chaos turns into a deadly revolution, anyone in a grand house is fair game.

Sophie and Hugo are running out of time…

if the author has ever heard a young person in 21st century speaking before. Will continue to see if it gets better but the main character is coming across very prim and annoying so far!

genuinely curious

as a fan of period dramas, it was interesting how a modern girl would feel stranded in the 1920s. this book is like Time Machine meets Downton Abbey.
I’m looking forward to the next book

very good narrator- interesting storyline

Totally unexpected and engrossing. I like books to take me to the unfamiliar but few have given me a ride like this! First day at university for 2 students catapults them to another time and place where things are done very differently. Can they overcome their personal differences to survive and work out a way back home? The lead characters quickly felt like friends and their experiences, even the bizarre ones, all too real. Imaginative, startling and sometimes bonkers, I found this an unforgettable listen.

Fantastic adventure of mystery and love

At first I found the story slow & almost stopped listening but eventually it got better and by the time it finished I was drawn to it and now I am looking forward to the next book.

An enjoyable book.

Clearly the start of a book series, the story started a little slowly. Once it got going it seemed a little like a period drama possibly not aimed at my demographic. But I persisted and was wrong. The characters developed nicely and the story was intriguing and interesting comparing the world of 2017 with the world of 1925 where it must have been very difficult to be a woman!

The narration overall was very good. It started off a little hurried and I slowed it to 0.9’ but it settled after a few chapters and I resumed reading at the normal speed. The narrator’s characterisation was excellent and the diction clear and quite gentle, perfect for the story

I look forward to reading the other two books in the series and hope the author, of whom I had not heard before seeing this book, continues writing this genre. She deserves every success.

An Intriguing Time Travel Story
