Summary

Ferrin is no ordinary blacksmith.

He is born with magic in a world where it’s not only feared, but outlawed. Struggling to keep food on the table, Ferrin decides to use his gift to aid in his work. That decision brings the Black Watch to his doorstep.

Caged alongside a helpless band of half-starved wielders, Ferrin formulates a strategy to escape. Armed with nothing more than his sarcastic wit and a determination to never give in, he attempts the impossible.

Will need to listen again

Now that I've revisited The White Tower, I know who the main character part is and what the prequel is about. However, I'll need to go back and listen again the back story of this character. Update: re - listened to "Shackled" today. okay understand more now, but still didn't get into or liked the character in this prequel as I liked him in the White Tower. I really enjoyed the Street Rat series and White Tower books and was excited about another book from Micheal Wishart, but was just okay about this prequel.

A Brilliant Intro

I have the other books in this series, and love them. So much so that I have them on both Kindle and Audible. I'm also tempted to buy them for my analogue book collection too. So when this prequel novella came along, buying it was a no brainer. It doesn't disappoint. So regardless of whether or not you have read the series to date or are just discovering this book as an intro, do yourself a favour and listen to it. The narration is impeccable, and compliments the story no end. The story could stand alone without this and still be brilliant, and I cannot recommend this book enough. Buy it. you'll be glad you did! tl;dr - listen to this as Michael and Tim have again excelled at his craft and done a brilliant job on this book.
