Summary

Now a student at Wurthaven, Will is confronted with the truth of the present.

The powerful magic embodied by wizards like his grandfather is but a distant memory. Though the practice of the current day is timid and uninspired, Will needs the knowledge that’s preserved and managed by the college. At every turn he finds that sorcery is supreme, while wizards are trained merely to assist and support those who hold the real power - a power based on an evil so deep that few who are living know the truth of its foundation.

As a student of wizardry, he’s expected to know his place and stay in it, but Will isn’t like the other students. His grandfather’s teaching has made him into something different, something forgotten - something they will learn to fear.

If he can grow into his power, with every choice, every refusal to submit, Will creates more enemies, enemies who aren’t content to let him live in peace. Without friends or support, Will must survive the knives in the dark, for Cerria is no place for those who refuse to follow the rules.

Excellent Series!!!

This book is a great continuation of the series. Great magik system. The MC isn't over or under powered. It actually delves a little into the history of his grandfather which was sorely needed. The narrator is excellent . Just go ahead and buy this one if you liked the first.

Couldn't stop listening

I loved this as much as Book 1, can't wait for Book 3. Tim Gerard Reynolds is an amazing narrator and gives the story a life of it's own with his character voices, especially the God Damn Cat!!!

Man I wanted to like this story

Great narration and writing, lots of showing no real examples of telling, but I can’t keep listening to it, I won’t return it, but I won’t listen to it, man this was got me all upset and it actually made me feel sick, like that’s never happened before. Maybe that’s great writing, but there is a point at which crappy things happening have to stop. Man this has never happened before through the literal hundreds or thousands of books I’ve listened to since I was 5 this has never happened. I hope other people can get through it, but not for me.

A love story with action

I’m not big on romance but the character development and relationships in this story dove tail nicely into the over all story. The main character does seem frustratingly dense while his Grand Fathers humor is superb.

Took turns i was not expecting

I went into this book with lots of excitment. Was expecting something similar to name of the wind when he gets to the univerity, a noble bully, problames with the teacher, struggeling to learn what he need to and that would be the book. Boy was i wrong. It was so much more than that. Something that was a bit disapointing is how this book doesnt make me crave the next one as much as the previous mademe crave this one. This might be because the first book had a preview of the second book. Highly recommend this book if you read the previous book

the book is well written and extremely enjoyable. kinda deals like a mix of adult and young adult but slot of action intrigue and some romance. the narrator was to notch as usual.

Better than most

Performance, as always when it comes to Tim Reynolds, was fantastic. Story was very good, but pros could have been better. Though who am I to judge. Will definitely be waiting for book 3.

good book

I laughed hard at points. Not as good as book 1 to me. However, still a great book to continue the series.
