Summary

In the wake of the Dropsite Massacre at Isstvan V, the survivors of the Salamanders Legion searched long and hard for their fallen primarch, but to no avail. Little did they know that while Vulkan might have wished himself dead, he lives still...languishing in a hidden cell for the entertainment of a cruel gaoler, his brother Konrad Curze.

Enduring a series of hellish tortures designed to break his body and spirit, Vulkan witnesses the depths of the Night Haunter's depravity but also discovers something else - a revelation that could change the course of the entire war.

A great story based around my favourite Primarch

This story really captures Vulkan's sheer power and unwillingness to use it, which I love!

Thrilling and disturbing

Very good and worth a read. Thoughts went to Betrayer, were we follow Angron and Lorgar and the relationship between them and their Legions. It's the same deal here but without any love between Vulkan and Curze.

Grimmaticus enters the stage again, we haven't seen him since Legion. He has a role to play yet.

It's also one of the books that move the story forward. Next is (chronology) Unrememberd Empire if I'm not mistaken.

Enthralling

Very good story! No holds barred on Vulkan's Torture. His Circumstances become more and more bleak and his Fatalities become more and more gruesome. Vulkan's Pain is unmatched. I will listen to this multiple times.
