Summary

Davey’s rule number 86: A good Daddy will never lie to his boy...even by omission.

Travis Miller has a pretty solid life in the small California beach town he calls home. He’s working his way up in the district attorney’s office, he owns a home with an ocean view, and he has close ties with his family. Life is good. If only he could find a sweet boy to call his own, life would be...perfect.

Adam Nichols’ life has never been easy. Growing up in foster care taught him to be strong, so finding himself in a violent relationship was a shock. Now that he's finally free of it, he faces new problems. He's jobless, homeless, and terrified of starting from scratch.

With a little help from an old friend, Adam discovers a whole new world. He goes from rock bottom to renting a room from a hot assistant DA and working at Daddy’s Lap, a kink club that opens his vanilla eyes to things he’d never imagined. His new roommate is a balm to Adam’s damaged soul. The tender way Travis cares for him is almost like the daddy kink community he’s seen at the club. But Travis isn’t a daddy...right? If he were, surely he’d have said so.

What happens when a lie by omission threatens to bring their budding relationship tumbling down around them? Will Travis ever be able to earn Adam's trust again?

This is the first book in a new series about not-so-perfect daddies, adorable “boys”, and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for references to domestic violence.

Great Listen

This was a great first book, can't wait to check out the rest of the series. Davey definitely stole the show however I really liked both MCs a lot. The progression of their relationship was really captivating.
Michael nailed the narration !!

Boy finds out Daddy

This is the first book in what promises to be an excellent new series. Michael Pauley is one of my top favourite narrators and he does an awesome job of bringing the guys to life. I enjoyed getting to know sweet Adam and Travis who longs to be his Daddy Dom. I'm highly anticipating book 2 and highly recommend this one to all lovers of Daddy/boy stories.

Expect tears and laughter

I enjoyed reading this book but I don't remember it making me cry.
Michael Pauley's narration was so good in the 1st few chapters that I found myself walking around the house crying whilst listening. He added emotion and even more humanity to Adam and the situation he was in.

Entertaining!

4 Stars

I wasn't sure what to expect when I listened to the Prologue of this book. It starts with Davey (the reason this series is called Davey's Rules) on a date with Travis, who turned out to be one of the MCs in Rules to Follow. Davey is a bratty guy in search of the perfect Daddy and to find him, he has made this set of rules he measures every guy he dates against in a 3 strikes and they're out kind of deal. Of course, the potential Daddy has no clue about the rules and with 80-something of them, he's bound to fail. So, yeah, I found Davey to be self-absorbed at first, but when his ex-roommate Adam calls him for help, he drops everything to help him and support him however he can. That changed drastically my opinion of Davey and now, I can't wait to read more of the series to see if/when he'll find his perfect Daddy.

Adam is fresh out of an abusive relationship and is fairly innocent. He's still quite young and my heart broke for everything he had to go through. While he got better with Davey and Travis's support, I felt he would've benefitted from a few counseling sessions, especially since he was studying to become a social worker in the future. *shrugs* Travis seemed like a nice guy, but the whole not telling Adam about being a Daddy, especially after Adam asked him point-blank made me want to knock his head on a wall. I liked the progression of their relationship, though, they were sweet together and I was glad we got to see them as a couple for longer than just a few pages.

Michael gave each character a very distinctive voice, his tone is very pleasant and he puts a lot of emotion into the narration, which always makes for an enjoyable experience when I get one of his audiobooks.

I'll be definitely looking forward to more of this series and Davey!

A Great Start

This is the first book in The Davey's Rules Series. What an sensational book the writing was good. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters wonderful. The characters were developed and thought out. Adam and Travis are the MC’s of this book. I can recommend this book as a good read. The narration was well done and not monotone. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Rules, rules, rules!

A nice start to this series that’s based around Davey and his endless rules! This book focuses on Adam, a survivor domestic abuse and Travis who teaches his to feel safe again.

It’s great fun and the parts that aren’t, are handled gently. It’s a slow burn and it’s great to see Adam starting to trust Travis and then, following a monumental screw up, trusting him again. Communication Guys! Come on!!!

Michael Pauley is, as always, perfect! He could read a menu to me and I’d be captivated....

Wonderful book

This sassy book is simply wonderful. Having Michael Pauley narrating just lifts this story, his Davey stole the book for me.

Davey has rules, lots of rules when it comes to his perfect Daddy. Davey is the architect/matchmaker of the series. In the prologue of the book he is on a date with Daddy Travis and it definitely doesn’t end happily ever after.

Adam needs to get out of his abusive relationship, luckily he has his friend Davey to fall back on, from there he rebuilds his life and ends up renting a room from Travis. The pair develop from roommates and friends to lovers, but Travis doesn’t tell Adam that he knows Davey from the club, or that he is a daddy, this to me was obvious from when they met, as the argument/breakup point of the book and it was hardly hidden I spent most of the book waiting for Adam to catch a clue, but it took a long time for that to happen.

I can’t wait to find out what happens in the next book, I do hope Davey gets his perfect HEA.

Great new series and brilliant narration

Davey's Rules is so heartwarming, hilarious and engaging as a story, definitely a great new series to love from Susan Hawke.
Adam goes to his college friend, Davey, in the middle of the night after finally leaving an abusive relationship. Travis comes into the picture offering a place for Adam to rent but keeps a vital part of himself back that is very likely to cause problems down the road as a connection neither of them expected.
Adam's new job at Daddy's Lap is eye opening but also makes him think about the type of relationship he'd actually like to have.....especially if anything became of his newfound friendship with Travis, though he would also have to introduce him to the world of Daddy kink, maybe.
This is a slow burn at first as friendship and trust is established in the aftermath of what Adam experienced with his ex (all off scene) before moving on to anything else between the two. Travis' Daddy side shines through in pretty much all of his actions towards Adam whether he knows it or not and they're so endearing. It's clear Travis sees something in Adam that could make him his perfect boy but completely understands the need to take things slowly. Though I absolutely love Adam and Travis as well as several secondary characters, stand out for me is Davey, such a sass queen! Hilarious and cannot wait for more!
So often I can rave about how good Michael Pauley's narration is and this is yet another occurrence of that! His portrayal of both MC's are distinct and full of feeling. I was pulled right into the story from the first chapter and instantly felt sympathy for Adam. Even better than the character voices for Travis and Adam, is how Michael voices Davey. It is perfect! Full of sass, snark and perfect for a the princess he claims to be.
A must listen! Excited for book two!

Susan Hawke, Michael Pauley, I Love You !!

I absolutely love Michael Pauley's narrations. ALL OF THEM. He makes a book come alive for me.
This was no exception.
Susan always writes exciting gripping books. Davey was just so fabulous darling.Lots of snark but underneath he really appreciates and looks after his friends. Daddy Travis was smooth but he didn't live up to Davey's rules (there are 86) for what a Daddy should do for his boy so Davey ditched him..
Adam was in an abusive relationship that he just knew he had to get out of. Zack his ex uses his fists when he's been drinking and Adam knew enough was enough.
So he calls his best friend at college, Davey and he sets him up with somewhere to stay and a job at Daddy's Lap.
This is Travis and Adam's story. I was hoping Davey was going to get his Daddy in Bryan ,Travis's brother. He is just what Davey needs. I have heard Bryan's story is next so will just have to wait and see. what happens.
rLoved this book and it was so easy listening to it, i didn't put it down until Michael read the closing credits.

The Rules every boy needs

This book is fun. There are serious issues of domestic abuse which has been handled with sensitivity. At the start I was a little confused why Davey seems to be the focus when the story was about Travis and Adam. But I figured that Davey (and his numerous rules) is possibly going to be the lynchpin of the series. He certainly is one sassy character. I enjoyed Daddy Travis as the saviour and his complete misjudgment which meant he had to make it up to Adam. Of course Davey is there to help get Adam and Travis together. I really want to know more about bratty Preston. There are so many great characters I think this has the makings of a great series.
Michael Pauley is an excellent narrator. He draws out the character traits of Daddy Travis’s firm gentleness and Adam’s tough yet fragility so well. All the personalities are portrayed with such depth. And Davey is larger than life. Such an enjoyable audiobook.
