Summary

Davey’s revised rule nyumber one: A good Daddy will love his boy with all his heart.

Davey Hendrickson doesn’t mind being forever single when he’s got his bestie at his side. It’s not that he wants to be single. He’s spent most of his adult life searching for his own perfect Daddy. Even if he’s not naturally submissive, someone that fabulous is obviously meant to be a boy...right? Over the years, he’s dated every type of Daddy imaginable but not one of them could come close to meeting the requirements from his ridiculous list of rules.

After losing his husband, Sammy Robustelli has learned to be strong while raising two children on his own. No matter what life has thrown his way, nothing seems too hard with his best friend and roomie Davey at his side. When the two friends learn that people believe they’re a couple, they can’t help but laugh. The very idea is a big joke...until it isn’t.

It only takes a few wake-up calls before Davey wonders what happens if a guy might be in love with the best friend he can never have. It could never work for a pair of boys in need of a bossy top, right? Except...maybe Davey doesn’t know himself - or Sammy - as well as he thinks.

This is the final book in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys”, and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book.

Fabulous

Well I didn’t see that coming, what a perfect ending. I absolutely love Davey and this story fits him perfectly. Davey needed to develop his list to grow into a Daddy. Best friends to lovers is so satisfying. Davey and Sammy fit so well together. Diva Daddy and his princess, so absolutely perfect.
As always Michael Dean brings all the characters to life and this little family is no exception.

Long Awaited Davey's Love Story

I enjoyed this series and waited a long time for Davey to find his perfect Daddy. I liked this final installment in the Davey's Rules series and thought it was a perfect conclusion with an interesting twist. Friends to Lovers is usually not my favorite trope, however in this book it worked and relationship between Davey and Sammy was very special. Narrator did a good job. I am looking forward to more work from this author and narrator.

AMAZING!

AMAZING! I love this series and Davey has been a huge tease since book 1, Davey and Sammy are sweet as much as they are sexy. Michael does these two justice and I loved the dynamic between them. Both are so different and this audio is perfect to set the tone for each personality. Can't wait for the next.

Fantastic!

Rules to Ignore by Susan Hawke is the seventh and final book in the Davey's Rules series. This contemporary m/m romance with sexy Daddy kink finally gives us the lovestory of Davey and Sammy. Best friends to lovers - they have an amazing connection and I love how they could embrace their love while still remembering the past. This story was everything I could want for these characters. It definitely had me feeling the feels. Loved it!!

This story is narrated by Michael Dean. Fantastic voicework and recording that brought the characters and story to life for me. Very enjoyable listen.

A relationship in the making

When Davey stepped up to help his bestie Sammy, he didn't realise he was tapping into a side of him that always existed.
As his rules for the perfect Daddy grew longer and longer, his demands were just never going to be met.
But, there was a side of him that could maybe just be the perfect Daddy, a Diva Daddy to his princess Sammy.

This was a much awaited addition to this series, we finally get to see Davey embrace the role he was meant to fulfill with much encouragement from those around him as he and Sammy move on to a new phase of both of their lives.

An engaging tale to listen to and the narration was done well. Each character was discernible and authentic to their voices over the series.

A Perfect Ending to a Perfect Series

Rules to Ignore Review

A Perfect Ending to a Perfect Series. I can often see the conclusion long before it happens in stories. One of the reasons why I loved playing, "Clue," when I was a kid. I must admit however, I did not see this one coming until book six. I just kept thinking to myself that I could not wait to see the person Susan would bring into Davey's life.

Often what we think or imagine we want in life in no way measures up to the journey life takes us on. If you ask someone my age about life as opposed to someone the age of my twenty-something sons, our answers would be vastly different. For them life is about the destination and "arriving," but for me, it's all about the ride and the stops I've had along the way.

Davey has watched his friends, acquaintances, and patrons for years as they have come into Daddy's Lap. He has made this exhaustive list of what he expects in and from his own Daddy, someday. Davey is currently the manager of Daddy's Lap, but his gig there began as a bartender and was probably meant to only be a short stay. However, a decade has come and gone as have lots of drinks, and some very special people, yet Davey remains.

I'm sure Davey never saw any of this when he was studying Art at college. That part of Davey speaks to many of us and how our lives move and flow like water in a river, ever fluid, bending and turning never still as it gently glides over sand, rocks, and cliffs until it meets its final destination. Many who get particular degrees in certain fields end up going on to work in other areas.

Rules to Ignore could be placed in the slow-burn category, but it was more, a "what the what" moment than anything for Davey, and fits nicely in the friends-to-lovers category. You can know and be close to someone for years and never consider them a certain way, but then one-morning wake and have an epiphany of sorts. At that moment everything changes and you see that person in a whole new way. It's as if you are starting again with them, and everything you felt about them is the same but different, more, complex, enlightened almost, and wonderful.

For Davey, this is amazing and terrifying. For me...Well, I just kept wondering, what the hell was gonna happen to that list of rules?!? That's in there too, by the way.

The seventh and final book in the series (with a spin-off in the works- woohoo!), was a delight! Filled with laugh out loud moments, endearing family drama (pre-teens..need I say more?), close-knit community, and one man who earned the title of Diva-Daddy.

Diva Daddy!!!!! Perfect Ending for this series!!!

I have been no so patiently waiting for this installment in the series and I may or may not have checked daily to see if the audible was out. I was NOT disappointed in the least. I absolutely loved this story and seeing Davey come full circle into who he was always meant to be. The relationship between Sammy and Davey is perfect and the build up to it was funny and loving just like you would expect from these two. Granted there were several times that I actually said out loud "oh no that girl did not, she would be in so much trouble" when they were dealing with Sadie Jane but I was so glad that Davey never once backed down from his Uncle role or from supporting Sammy through all of it. I also loved that these two didn't have any miscommunications or other crazy angst, that made the story even more perfect for the two besties. The ending that the author gave these two couldn't have been more perfect for them either. We were also teased with a spin off series that I can't be happier about because I love this world that the author has created and I just know she will have some of our favorite people showing up as side characters in that series because she is such a wonderful author! The narration as always was very well done.

A sweet romantic finale (very slight spoilers)

This was a great book, in some ways I think the other books were more entertaining. But, what makes this finale novel for the Davey's Rules series is that we have gotten to watch Sammy with Rafe, and then watch Davey help him pick up the pieces of his life after Rafe's heartbreaking death.

Since we have already gotten a great look into Davey and Sammy's relationship and friendship, I felt like it was somewhat anti-climatic, but it was sweet all the same.

Several tears were shed with Sammy's coming to terms with finding a new love, and the insinuation that Rafe was guiding them both made it so extra heartbreaking and sweet. So so many tears shed, including while writing this portion of the review.

I read Rafe and Sammy's book and I thought that Rafe's instructions for Sammy if he died were what any spouse/So would want for their partner. So that was super touching and with the reminder of the words in this book, it makes my heart melt.

I really enjoyed SJ's drama, it definitely added realism to the novel and showed off how great of a parenting couple Davey and Sammy make.

It kind of felt that the realization that they were in love just kind of came softly, and I had sort of hoped it would be a little more dramatic, but in the end I think it was more them.

I do wish that there had been an epilog of Rafe watching over them and being satisfied and at peace that his Boy was taken care of. I really really miss that it didn't happen.

I absolutely related to Davey's aha moment when he realized he was a Daddy/Dominant. I went through the exact same thing, and it truly took my dominant at the time to tell me that I was also a Dominant for me to recognize it, so his story really resonated with me.

I also enjoyed the storyline about Davey realizing that size and being a top/bottom do not effect what a person enjoys or how they identify, Dominant or Submissive. I felt this was extremely important to point out and Susan did a great job of this. It's definitely a preconceived notion in the world of BDSM, and at 5'3" I can absolutely tell you, being short doesn't automatically make you a sub. So this was just an excellent example of real life BDSM.

She also did fantastic with how much Davey and Sammy discussed their dynamic, and what would and would not work. She also did great with showing that Davey was NOT Rafe, and that even though he was a Daddy as well, that he would not Daddy just like Rafe. I felt that was also very important to show, as this is absolutely true with BDSM relationships when you switch partners.

Susan has done a really good job of showing many different BDSM relationships in a realistic and honest way, with out making it overly dramatic or ridiculous. This is absolutely a tricky thing to do, and she really nails it.

After my long ramble, basically I strongly recommend these books if you like romance, enjoy a Daddy/boy kink, like BDSM in general, or are interested in a realistic BDSM relationship and all the talking, openness, and honesty that in necessary to make it work.

Davey finally finds his forever.

I loved reading about Davey and Sammy because I have loved them from all the previous books. I love their friendship and individual charachters, their banter and their lack of boundaries with each other.
Perhaps it's because they were already so close, I didn't really feel their getting together; it felt more of an enhanced friendship? or maybe, something so "natural" that I sort of didn't feel the magic of romance.
This being said, it doesn't mean I didn't like the book. On the contrary, it's a funny, sweet, sort of comforting story; like a favourite blanket to wrap around you to feel cozy.
