Summary

A gentle clergyman. A broken prostitute. A blossoming love that will endanger both their lives…

Forced into depravity by her tyrannous guardian after her parents’ death, Ruby’s life is one of vile deeds and violence. Unable to remember much of life outside the brothel’s walls, years of despair and abuse have crushed all hope of ever breaking free from her captor’s iron grip.

Until an unlikely encounter with Henry, a gentle country clergyman, sets an escape in motion that will change both their lives. But when Ruby’s worst fears are realized, the uncommon pair will face more devastation than either thought possible.

As the dawning of a new life of peace and love is ripped from her grasp, Ruby discovers that true freedom has a high cost...but who will have to pay?

Moving story of love and redemption

This story was an incredibly emotive romance. Although to call it a romance would be quite limiting, because it’s much more than that. The story shows the sovereignty and the far reach of God’s love for us all. But it also shows what a good Godly man looks like. I found this wasn’t a romance that I tore through, like some that are lighter in theme. The reason for me taking longer over it was because the emotional impact that this book has means that one has to take longer to absorb the story and all that the characters are going through.

I found several characters particularly heinous and very delightful to dislike!

I shall name no names.

I also really enjoyed the growth of some of the characters, in particular that of Abigail.

She’s not a main character, but rather a secondary one and I found myself very frustrated with her in places. However, the way that her character evolves I found very believable and very human. I think the reason I found her frustrating was probably because she was exhibiting some of the traits I have and don’t like! So it was great to see how she changes throughout the story.

I had several favourite scenes in this book, but unfortunately I won’t be able to share them here because they would be massive spoilers! Suffice it to say if you want a Regency Romance that has more depth than your average one, and if you want to be inspired, then this is the book for you.
