Thriller Series with the X-Factor?
- By Simon on 21-11-16
Summary
A deep-state US organization has a top-secret kill list - and a popular senator is on it.
Nathan Stone was killed in action while serving as a covert CIA operative. Or so everyone thought. In reality he’s become a ghost, a black-ops asset with a new identity and controlled by a secret government organization. The Commission has one aim: to hunt down and assassinate anti-establishment enemies of the state.
Its number-one target is Senator Brad Crichton, an ambitious politician with growing support. Stone is ready to take him out, but his plan is soon compromised when the Commission’s kill list is leaked to a journalist - whose own name is on the list too. And when the journalist tries to alert the senator, he is found dead in suspicious circumstances. Stone is closing in on Crichton, but must act swiftly to reach him before the truth does.
He knows that one wrong foot will put him in the firing line. But where national security is at stake, the hunter can quickly become the hunted.

Dull, slow and predictable.
Firstly the narrator was the same as the Reacher books, initially he could have been talking about Reacher himself. I don’t rate the narrator, no depth, or passion.
The thing about his farther, and sister was repeated over and over, the average reader can actually remember the plot.
Without spoiling it, the end of this book is predictable.

Fast paced Action very entertaining.
J. B. Turner has written the start to a new series that I think will be another winner. If you like the John Reznick series I think you will like this one also.
The protagonist in this book is Nathan Stone. He's a ghost. Used to work for the CIA but was thought to have been killed. Instead he got a new face and now works for the Commission. The Commission isn't government, it's former black ops working for a group of wealthy men. They've come up with a list of people whose interests oppose theirs and they want them killed. Stone is one of the men tasked with carrying out the killings but something's gone wrong and now the Commission wants him out of the way also.
With John Reznick's skills if not his aversion to collateral damage Stone is out for blood.
This book is fast paced with plenty of action although a little predictable. Still very entertaining.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating.

Holy crap!
What a horrible book!
The "hero" was a complete psychopath. I mean, I know he was an assassin but when he killed the German tourist and then laughed when he got into the drivers seat of the guy's motor home I was absolutely done, at 87%. I couldn't even stomach finishing the book.
I can't believe how many WOMEN reviewers on Amazon and Goodreads and here liked this book when it was all about a cold-blooded murderer. I read Mr. Turner's other series but at least he gave Jon Resnick some kind of feelings, other than the desire to want to kill.
This book was soooo bad and I'm soooo angry I could go on and on and on about how I ticked off I feel. But I won't.
I'll just leave a short message to Mr. Turner that I'm done reading anything else you write.
I will tell you that the F-bomb was used 75 times.
As to the narration: Fortunately there were no women to speak of since Mr. Kafer can't even pretend a feminine sound so it wasn't to bad.

Excellent political espionage thriller!
Author J. B. Turner's follows his Jon Reznick black-ops series with ROGUE which is Book 1 in his American Ghost/Nathan Stone series. ROGUE has fast pace, political intrigue, lots of action, sustained suspense, and a likable protagonist. Turner is rapidly becoming one of the best authors of espionage and political thrillers. Jeffrey Kafer's narration is superb.

This story made no sense to me
I have read the Reznik novels so I thought this would be just as awesome. But honestly I had no clue which character to care for or root for. Eventually you're left with Nathan... But he never really has has a Epiphany moment that makes him into a good guys. He is still a stone cold killer at the end of the book.... This is the strangest anti hero book I ever listened to.... I was left very unsatisfied at the end of the book.

Can't get into carrying about the protagonist
There really isn't any redeeming quality to Nation Stone. He is a cold, heartless killer/weapon. We don't get any glimpse to any humanity. I couldn't connect or care about any of the characters ... Story moved along, there was action but 'who cares'? There as no tension, no suspense. I won't be following this series.

who is the good guy?
This is a good story and it is well written but who do I root for? There is literally not one likeable character in the whole book. It also has a deeply unsatisfying ending. I kept waiting for something to hapoen to make you want to root for someone but it never came.
