About this listen

Resilience is the compellingly honest autobiography of Elise Christie - triple World Champion, 10-time European Champion and former world-record-holding short track speed skater.

In a world where online scrutiny is more intense than ever, Elise’s story massively transcends sport. Having been routinely bullied while growing up in Scotland, Christie first felt the full weight of online public opinion following three separate disqualifications at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Death threats followed amid a torrent of online hate whereby she was accused of having caused a rival South Korean medal hopeful to crash. And with that, Christie, aged just 24, retreated into a period of mental health support to assist her through extremely traumatic times on the lead up to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, where again her dreams fell apart in barely believable circumstances.

And yet, she emerged stronger. Told with her trademark blend of unfiltered honesty and dark humour, Resilience is her incredible, inspiring story.

I find Elise Christie’s style of writing to be quite a breath of fresh air.

Elise Christie brings awareness and a new level of understanding to self harm for the world. I would say that even though she is a professional athlete and speaks about her frustration and joy in this sport the thing that strikes me most is her open and honest descriptions of self harm and what she was going through in those dark times in her life.
This book is easy to listen to, and a pleasure to read. I will probably come back to this again and again.

Inspirational

I’ve watched a lot of Elise’s career and was looking forward to hearing her story but was desperately disappointed. Awful narration is the main problem with this book but the story itself is just a bitter rant about how unfair things can be.

A real struggle to get through
