About this listen

The long-awaited memoir by movie and theatre legend Brian Cox.

A Guardian, Times, Sunday Times and Independent Book of the Year

*Featuring a foreword by the executive producer of Succession, Frank Rich, an executive producer of HBO's Succession, a former chief drama critic of The New York Times, and the author of the memoir Ghost Light.*

From Titus Andronicus with the RSC to media magnate Logan Roy in HBO's Succession, Brian Cox has made his name as an actor of unparalleled distinction and versatility. We know him on screen, but few know of his extraordinary life story.

Growing up in Dundee, Scotland, Cox lost his father when he was just eight years old and was brought up by his three elder sisters in the aftermath of his mother's nervous breakdowns and ultimate hospitalisation. After joining the Dundee Repertory Theatre at the age of 15, you could say the rest is history—but that is to overlook the enormous graft that has gone into the making of the legend we know today.

This is a rags-to-riches life story like no other—a seminal autobiography that both captures Cox's distinctive voice and his very soul. Rich in emotion and meaning, with plenty of laughs along the way, it will be a classic in the vein of The Moon's a Balloon by David Niven and What's It All About by Michael Caine.

Brian is a consummate pro. I love the Dundee boy that he remains, despite having the luxury of HBO thrust upon him. He deserves praise for his career, and this delightful book about it. I recommend this book to every Film and TV fan, young and old. If you are Scottish, I believe you'll get more from this than your average punter, you'll empathise more with the author, I'd imagine. Great work, loved it! Thank you, Mr Cox. Glad I bought this autobiography.

Brilliantly written and delivered, touching without being over sentimental. Immensely interesting, with a refreshing directness.

I found myself smiling often because of the well crafted humour in just the right places!

A really great read and listen, I recommend both the book and audible without reservation and as Brian frequently reminds us its all in text..........

Really enjoying the honesty of this book. Do like how he lets us know what he really thinks about the people he has met and encountered. Really good insight into life in the theatre from 60s to present day with bits of Succession spread throughout. Brian Cox is also one if the most listenable narrators going!

Great Honest Listen
