Summary

A dark, compelling new thriller from best-selling authors Sarah A. Denzil and Anni Taylor

Young backpackers Gemma and Hayley arrive at a remote fruit farm in Australia’s Northern Territory, out of money and desperate for work.

The weeks go on, a blur of fruit picking, parties, campfires and wading beneath waterfalls in the nearby hot springs. Until the night the girls find themselves on a dark highway, bruised and bloodied.

Senior Detective Bronwen McKay and psychologist Megan Arlotti question the terrified girls. But Hayley and Gemma are telling two very different stories of what happened to them over the past three months.

Which story is the truth, and what are the girls covering up? A suspenseful thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

Really different

The first 3/4 of this book was brilliant, really different to anything else I have heard, no idea where the storyline is going. I was totally hooked.
Last 1/4 was a bit disappointing, it got a bit fantastical and slightly ridiculous. Rather disappointed as I think I would have given it 5 stars otherwise.
Narrator is brilliant.

Starts well but becomes progressively tedious and ridiculous

Good idea. Good initial characterisation and compelling first part to the story. But part two deteriorates sharply. Very dull repetitive accounts of life at the farm. Combined with characters and events that are so unpleasant it becomes hard to listen to.
The plot becomes progressively ridiculous and I ceased to believe in the characters and lost interest. The last two hours are plain silly. Stuck it out but it was painful.

okish story becomes too far fetched by the end

starts well but by the end you're wishing it's over. the baddy becomes ridiculous and you lose any sympathy for the rest of the characters

Starts well

The story starts well and is at first intriguing and quite pacey, but it was overlong and a bit tedious towards the end.

Crazy story with unbelievable characters

There was two reasons why I chose this book firstly audible was pushing it and then the main reason was I have recently both read and listened to some incredible distinctive Australian books .
Unfortunately this book doesn’t live up to the hype and has unrealistic feel to it if I hadn’t just returned a book this would have gone back

Wow!

Writing was excellent. Story was going strong right off the bat then introduced new characters from a new perspective. Of course that's necessary bringing in the police procedural part of it.
Trust me though it's a fascinating story and after a long dry spell with nothing exciting this was a great. Highly recommended.

Exceptional psychological thriller

I've listened to a lot of mystery/thrillers over the last few months and most are lacking in originality or in actual thrills -- or the mystery is too easily figured out or too out of left field. But this book was solid all the way through, good story, surprises along the way, and fully fleshed out characters. I highly recommend.

Twists A-Plenty

I don’t often do more than just give a “stars” - leaving the full reviews to other folks. That said, when an author really captures my attention and interest like Sarah and Anni did, I need let others know!

This book twists and turns, and just when I thought I’d figured it out - another twist. Right up to the last sentence this was an excellent and well written book! It was quite a ride!!

Bravo!!

Interesting and captivating

I was worried at first this was going to be one of those books where nothing happens in the present, and the whole story is just flashbacks and re-telling of the past. That is definitely not the case! The story picks up quickly and has many unpredictable twists throughout. Would highly recommend!

Wow.

This was so creepy it had me looking over my shoulder a few times. It's been a while since I've come across a true psychological thriller. You definitely won't be disappointed!

I thought it was too twisty

Pretty good story but it was just a bit too twisty for me. I only liked a couple of the characters, the psychologist and the female detective. I did not like either of the two girls Hayley and Gemma and did not really care who was telling the truth.
The story became just too twisted and scary after the first 13 chapters and I skipped to the last two chapters to find out how it ended. I found the ending to be confusing and I did not like it. It is fair to say I may have liked it better if I had not skipped from chapter 13, but I don't think so. The narrator was good. I will be returning this book.

What a performance

This book was definitely interesting, however, for me the performance was the real standout. Absolutely superb!
