Summary

From the author of Falling with Folded Wings comes a furious new fantasy series, in which a teenage, hard-case Earthling tries to earn some class . . .

Victor can’t wait to get the hell out of high school, go to the local community college on a sports scholarship, and start his own life. But that’s all put on hold when he enters his abuela’s house and somehow ends up stepping into a world unlike anything he’s ever known, filled with fantastical meta-humans; walking, talking devils; and other creatures one usually needs some serious pharmaceuticals to see.

Fanwath is no dream, though. In fact, it’s a nightmare. Sold into slavery as a pit fighter, Victor quickly learns his new home is controlled by the “System” and the only way to get ahead is to fight, kill, and collect the precious “Energy” that means the difference between a long life and an early grave. And according to his stats, Victor’s starting out at a solid zero.

Lucky for him, no one in this world has ever met his kind before—which means they have no idea what he’s really capable of. But they’re about to find out . . .

The first volume of the hit LitRPG adventure series—with more than 750,000 views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Absolutely Brilliant story and narration

The main character, Victor is very likeable, the narration is fantastic. Loads of action in this book. There are twists in this book I did not see happening and the way the story goes and the turn it took was brilliantly done. I must honestly say, I have been very impressed. I am currently on the second book and that is not disappointing at all. More of that in its own review.
You will not be disappointed if you decide to listen to this.
Happy listening.

If you like OP look no further...

Pit Fighter by @plum_parrot. The MC was awesome: his journey from a humble LVL zero to OP AF was interesting. He learned to cultivate essence to fight & ultimately kill under contract. A quite varied set kept the reader interested in the world. Great start 📚 5/5⭐ #BookReview

Excelent

This is a series I've read ahead of the audible releases. I'm on book 7 with no plans to drop it. This started months ago and it's one of my favourite LitRPGs.

It's mostly a single PoV story and a combination of Isekai and LitRPG. You've probably seen the like before, so what's different here?

First off, the main character is emotional. I wouldn't say "stupid", but even far into book 7, his emotionally is a core aspect of both his power and his appeal. It's not going away and nobody wants it to go away because that's just who Victor is. And for better and worse, it starts with a lot of anger at his precarious situation.

There's very little unnecessary heartbreak. Important people sometimes die, but the author respects the death and suffering.

The world building itself isn't unique, but the story built on top of it is better than the sum of its parts.

Also, don't expect a majorly gripping story. It's the kind of series that consistently stays good even with its many and unexpected diversions. Because oh boy is the story going places. And Victor has no idea what's in store for him.

The character development/interaction bar for LitRPG is fairly low, but this is probably one of the most realistic stories in that regard. It feels genuine. People care for each other, they come and go from Victor's life, old friends reunite, and they deal with occasional jealousy and misunderstandings. Little details in the dialogue that make you want to listen with a cup of tea in your preferred cozy place.

The system messages can be a bit daunting when they happen in audio, but they're not terribly important.

Yes there's fighting too. And increasing levels of badassery, but the power creep is very gradual. VERY gradual. He's gotten remarkably more powerful than when he started, in surprising ways, but there are still friends and foes who are stronger than him.

Yeah you should buy it. Don't expect a standard story and you're golden.

Very enjoyable

My first LitRPG book and I really enjoyed it. A basic but interesting story line but it bounces along nicely and the Narration was top class 👍🏻

it's a good story well performed

kept me engaged all the way to the end. its interesting, it's well performed, the main character is likeable but flawed, which adds to realism. there are a lot of lirpg progression type stories out there but they are not all great. there's something about this that makes you want to follow it through? oh, yeh, it's good storytelling!
