Summary

SSA Rain Christiansen used to be the agency's golden boy. It just takes one moment of weakness, one slight, tiny, itty-bitty paranormal sighting, and all of a sudden, he's the agency's embarrassment. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself - go down to Brickell Bay, play nice with the local police, and leave the ghost sightings behind. Rain is determined to do exactly that, even if it kills him.

Cold-case Detective Daniel McKenna's latest investigation is going nowhere fast. Five years earlier, high school student Amy Greene went missing after leaving her part-time job and was never seen again. Daniel is glad to finally have the FBI help his department requested, even if it does come in the form of his ex.

It doesn't help that Rain is pretty sure he's falling in love with Danny all over again - if he ever stopped. Add to that the frustration of seeing ghosts at every turn while he works a case that's stalled in its tracks, and Rain is starting to wonder if second chances and happy endings are just for fairy tales.

Entertaining Paranormal Suspense

Overall I really enjoyed listening to this book. I had previously read the author's PI Guys Series a while back and came across this when I was looking for m/m romantic suspense to listen to. I wasn't familiar with the narrator, however, I liked the pitch and cadence of his voice, especially Danny's slight southern lilt, and I would definitely listen to him again. I liked Rain and Danny together, opposites attract, hot sex and a mutual wish for something more but I found their past relationship a touch unbelievable/underwhelming given the amount of secrets they kept from each other despite the fact they lived together. I am rooting for them going forward though! Rain's reluctant 'Ghost Whispering' skills, a plot revolving around a cold-case to find a missing teenager and a cast of potential suspects and ghosts was entertaining and kept me listening, although the eventual unmasking of the villain wasn't a huge shock. The ending is not a cliffhanger but definitely screams sequel. I have not seen anything from the author confirming this but I would definitely pick it up if it is released.

I didn't want this book to end.

At first glance at the blurb, the premise of this book looks similar to the Psycop series by Jordan Castillo Price. The only common threads are a law enforcement officer who can see ghosts, and a character with a new age shop. The characters and writing style are original, superbly fleshed out and so paranormal mm fans should dive right in. I do hope that this is the start of a long series cos I adored the characters of Rain and Danny. This was a wonderful, refreshing murder mystery and I want more!

Loved it!

This is a highly entertaining murder/mystery, paranormal story and romance combined. I particularly enjoyed the banter and snark that spilled from the lips of Rain, the POV character, and Ethan, the friendly ghost who popped up frequently throughout the story. It took me a chapter or two but once I sussed out their humour and the tone of the story they had me bursting out laughing many times. Rain is a great character—an FBI profiler, who is still learning how to deal with the ghosts he sees. He’s already received psychiatric counselling at work and he’s determined to prove he is capable of doing his job in a professional manner. His new partner on a cold case is Danny, his ex-lover of four years, who for some reason was not privy to the fact that Rain was talking to ghosts. The lack of trust went both ways as Danny kept certain information about his own sister and father from Rain. But now they’re back together working on a case to find a girl who has been missing for five years. Rain and Danny are friends and it’s clear they still harbour feelings for each other. Danny had been hurt the first time Rain left and is reluctant to start anything in case Rain disappears back to Washington DC again. The chemistry between these guys is sizzling and Rain’s inner comments are hilarious as he tries to resist his ex. The sex scenes when they do come are hot and dirty. They need to learn to talk and trust each other this time around and as they work the cold case together, they gradually learn to do that. The writing is superb, the story-telling skilfully done and the characters are well-developed. There are a few wobbly plot points but nothing major to spoil the overall story for me. I certainly hope we’ll be getting more stories in this series and more of these two guys. Noah Michael Levine is a new to me narrator. His voice suits Rain’s character and he delivered those snarky lines well. Noah made it enjoyable and easy to follow the story—so much so, I listened to it all over again straight away. Highly recommended.

Terrific audio...

Terrific audio from a new-to-me narrator Noah Michael Levine. His female characterisations were great, and he had Danny's drawl spot-on. Rain was as snarky as ever...the only problem I had was that he kept pronouncing forehead as farhead for some reason 🤔. Anyhoo...any time the author wants to add to this series, I'm there with bells on 😁. ***Book Review*** 4.5 stars from me. Absolutely loved the banter...nearly everything that came out of Rain's mouth was pure snark...the snark-o-meter was strong in this one. His 'interactions' with Ethan, his first spirit guide so to speak, his boss Gracie at the FBI, his mum [honestly, who names their kids Rainstorm and Sky?? 😉] were full of sarcasm, and when he met up with Danny again, I thought we were in for more of the same. I did have a slight problem with the fact that for lovers who'd previously been together for 4 years, they didn't seem to tell each other hugely important things....(view spoiler), and Rain?? Well...exactly how do you tell your lover that you can see and hold conversations with ghosts?? I would definitely be up for more stories from these two and the rest of the PTU.

Really enjoyed this story

This is my first book by this author and I was not disappointed. I am a big fan of supernatural/who done it stories and this one was both interesting and laugh out loud funny. The romance between the two MC was believable and worked well with solving the mystery. I have to mention Ethan the snarky ghost loved that dead guy.

Absolutely brilliant!

If I could give this more than 5 stars for both the story and the quality of the narration then I would. I listened to the book in 1 day, just couldn't switch off. I loved Rain's sense of humour and really felt for him trying to come to terms with his new 'role'. Noah really brought all the characters to life, not just the MC's as there are some important supporting characters too. I loved Ethan, I really wish in a way we could have a story about him too. Totally recommend this audio title, definitely worth your hard earned credits! :-)

Loved, loved, loved! Please just give me more!

I fell in love with this book when I read it last year when it was first released. Ever since I've been hoping it would be released into audio so I could experience the magic once more. So to say that I was ecstatic when I saw that Tantor was going to release it, is putting it a bit mildly. Dealing with ghosts isn't easy - something that SSA Rain Christiansen is well aware of - seeing as one particular ghost caused him to almost lose his job when trying to help him find closure. In a last attempt to save his career he's sent to Brickell Bay to assist in a cold case investigation into the disappearance of a high school student. The detective he's helping? Well that's none other than his ex; Daniel McKenna. An ex that he's not sure he ever stopped loving. But there's a lot of history and secrets that might just be enough to keep them from finding their way back to each other, This time around I need to separate the story from the narration in order to make sense of it. So let's start with the story - I absolutely loved it, and everything about it. It drew me in from the start. I loved the feel to the book, the atmosphere Harmon created with her words. It felt real and genuine. And yes I do know that talking with ghost might not be construed as reality – well at least not mine, but this book still felt real to me. I believed in it. For me that's a sign of a great book. Right from the start you could feel the chemistry between Rain and Danny. The struggles each of them were going through, the hurt and the longing. But underneath it all you could also feel the love they still felt and the hope that maybe this time tings would be different. That is, if the case they're working on doesn't drive them apart even more. As for the narration.... Sadly I think I expected more from the audio version. The narration felt a bit lacklustre and uninspiring. Sure, Noah did try to insert some feeling to his narration, but it fell short most of the time. So if you're looking for a basic reading of the book, you'll most definitely enjoy it, but if you like me, are looking for something more, that added flavour and feeling you are bound to be a bit disappointed. I remember that when I finished reading this book last year, I was practically salivating for it to turn into a series, I still do want - no need - more books with Rain and Danny. But I'll also say that if judging it solely by the audiobook I wouldn't have been as impressed, as I just didn't connect to it the way that I did when reading. So if or when more books are published, I think I’ll stick to the written word instead of the spoken one. A copy of this book was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review for Love Bytes.

Because you taste like home

Guys, it’s official. S.E. Harmon has finally converted me because I now officially love contemporary and second-chance romances. 😂👏 Again, they aren’t my usual cuppa but seems like Miss Harmon is my new catnip because I seem to fall in love with every single book she wrote. 😉 I looooooooved this delicious paranormal/mystery second-chance novel. ❤️ I mean a snarky federal agent who sees and speaks to ghosts, one very hunky, dominant and grumpy detective and a cold case murder mystery to solve?!?!?! OMG! Sign me up and take all my money!!! 😍😱🙋‍♀️ Rain is in hot water, once the golden boy of FBI, now Rain is on the verge of losing his job because people think he’s cuckoo. I mean .. an FBI agent who’s a ghost whisperer? 😁 Not a good mark for Rain. So now his only chance of redemption is going to Brickell Bay which happened to be his home town to help the local PD solve cold cases that have been lying around for years and years. So after a long and uncomfortable flight, Rain is gobsmacked when he found out the policed officer who picked him up at the airport is none other than his ex-boyfriend Danny whom he’s still very much in love. 😏When Danny offered Rain to stay at his home during the investigation, our snarky agent was quite worried for his *ahem ahem* virtue. 😂👏 I mean .... in all fairness, they have had sex literally on every possible surface of Danny’s house when they were together. 😁 But Rain is only going to think about food and coffee when he sees that kitchen counter where he was frequently bended over and pounded by his then boyfriend Danny McHunk. 😉 Nope, Rain has too much on his plate. Between Talking, annoying ghosts, hippie weed-smoking parents and a vegan sibling and a very interesting and completely clueless cold case, Rain is definitely not going to think about Danny and their scorching chemistry. 🔥 Now only if his cock would listen. 😂👏 OMG! I looooooooooooooooved Rain’s snark and inner monologues in this book. 😁😍 They are PURE gold! 👍 I mean I know S.E. Harmon writes my kind of snark but how comes they seem to get better and better with each and every book. 😊 Seriously guys, the dialogues in this book are just insanely hilarious and snarky. 🤣 I loved every minute listening this book. 💜 And talk about the narration of Noah Michael Levine! Damn, that was a fine-arse narration, no, it wasn’t even a narration, it was a stellar play! 👏 During some sex scenes, I could even hear the hitch of Noah’s breath and it really was like I was witnessing Rain and Danny right in front me. So good! 🥰 And I loved the slow and built-up UST and romance between Rain and Danny. Both men are stubborn and with wounds from their past relationship. And they are afraid to admit that they still love each other because they are afraid to get hurt again. But damn, the chemistry? It was sizzzzzzzling! 🔥 I also loved the paranormal/mystery aspect of the story. Until Rain revealed of his suspect, I didn’t have an idea who was the murderer. The confrontation scene was pretty scary and chilling but I loved it. And yes, baby!!!!! Give me some reunion sex!!!! ✋✋✋ Damn! Damn! Dammmmmmmmmn! 🔥 Mmmmmm hmm, those were onehelluva smexy scenes! 🔥🔥🔥 Mama likey! 😋 Although there wasn’t an epilogue, I loved how everything ended. It was a full on HEA with very hopeful and positive future. 😌 And you know what, let me spill some beans. I heard we are getting a sequel so hip hip hurrayyyyyyyy!!!!! 😁👏 I’m getting more snark and love!!! 😜 I AM addicted now! I’ll be jumping up and down waiting anxiously for the sequel of this book because baby, I know that’s going to be worth the wait! 😉💜 Favorite excerpts from the story: “Don’t you fall in lust, I warned my dick. Don’t you fall in love, it warned me right back.” "I kissed him without reservation. Kissed him like it was the first time. Kissed him like I'd never left." "His mouth moved over mine aggressively, almost angrily, and that was fine by me. More than fine. If he tried to do flowers-and-roses romance right then, I would’ve seriously kicked his ass. As it was, I was pretty sure my lips were going to be swollen, the way he was abusing them. He sucked my bottom lip into his mouth and tugged on it with his teeth, wordlessly asking me to open more, and I did with no hesitation. He rewarded me by possessively plunging his tongue into my mouth." “I’m pretty sure the last time you saw a vagina, you were coming out of one.” I snorted. “Yeah, well, not all of us needed to experiment in college to figure it out, Irish.” “I wasn't even counting the hand job I convinced Danny to give me in the shower last night. Blow jobs tonight. Or my name isn’t Rainstorm Christiansen.” "You taste soft and sleepy and sweet." I could do a little better than that. "You taste like home." 5 Because you taste like home stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Audio rating Story - 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Narration - 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Performance - 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall - 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Harmon Delivers Again

I've been a fan of S.E. Harmon since first listening to Stay With Me (the first of the P.I. Guys books). This continues to deliver with some truly wonderful characters (including a gloriously snarky Rain), a few incredibly hot sex scenes, a fun (if at the end a bit predictable) plot, and great dialogue. It's a book I know I will be revisiting, and if you are a fan of Harmon's writings, this will be right up your alley. A solid 5 out 5.

Wow. I was blown away

I really loved this story. It grabbed me and kept me enthralled for the entire book. I think that this is one of my favourite audio books that I have had the privilege of listening to. Noah Michael Levine is perfect, so talented. I will definitely be listening to it again soon.

A unique story about ghost whisperer

Rain is a profiler but once he starts seeing ghosts he becomes the departments embarrassment. they give him one last chance to redeem himself sending him back to Brickwell to work Cold cases. Seeing his old partner and lover again brings back lots of feelings, but Daniel is still feeling the hurt. He does offer Rain a place to stay so he doesn't have to stay with his sister. I loved the multiple story lines here. We have the romance, the mysteries and the fact he can see ghosts. I love persistent Ethan, a ghost that wants his family to know he is at rest so they can stop looking for him and the angrier Amy wanting revenge. there is a big twist and I didn't see who the murderer was. I am hoping this might become a series as it was very intriguing and left it open so it possibly could. I listened to the audio book and found it very interesting and the narration kept me engrossed in the story and characters.

Enjoyable plot and characters

Though the type of paranormal ability the main character has is off the charts, and obviously just a good plot device, it makes for some funny and some poignant moments. The interactions between Rain and his cop love interest is steamy but also endearing. A fun, diverting read. The narration was good, especially when giving voice to the characters, both male and female, but a little stiff in the descriptive/narrative passages.

This Book Could Be Summed Up In One Word: Lacking

There is not too much one can really say about this book. In basically every aspect it is lacking. The "mystery"/crime was not engaging. The paranormal aspect was not engaging. And the romance felt like it wasn't even there. There seems to be a trend when you combine "past relationship" and "cop" together where it just never feels like there is a real connection between them. This was the case in this book as well. The story seems to be more inclined to put all its eggs in the basket that they used to have a relationship rather than showing that they still want to be in one. You can't just have one of them say they love the other and never actually show it. I don't feel the connection between these two at all. They want to have sex, constantly. But I don't get any of the actual romance/love relationship. Heck, even having them just be in a physical relationship and ignoring the romance aspect might have worked better. But it's a lot of tell, no show, and that just results in no connection. I also think the narration was pretty middling, which likely did not help. A poorer story can be elevated by an amazing narrator, just as a poor one can ruin the best writing. In this case, they just sort of suit each other. It's good enough to get through, but not good enough to skip back 30 seconds if you miss anything. I probably would not recommend it myself, but if ghost whisperers are your thing then I think you'd find it acceptable enough. There are definitely far better paranormal gay romance books out there though.

Playful. Steamy. Enigmatic

P.S. I Spook You is the type of story , I love listening/reading. An entertaining, colorful , offbeat hybrid of whodunit , murder mystery, FBI investigation , romantic comedy , delicious descriptive hot AF sexy times with Paranormal activity in the form of helpful, friendly , mischievous and even at times grumpy ghosts , one of them , a bit of a voyeur . Yep, that's right , this is a very original and quirky tale. Noah Michael Levine did a great job . His narration was solid and engaging. Complex

I love S.E. Harmon’s Blueprint series. So I was hoping to really love this one too. I may have attempted to read this book thrice before I finally finished it. The premise is nice. Not unique, but it’s something I could get behind. An FBI agent trying to get his ish together after being placed on medical leave because he breached protocol and extended a message from a dead victim to her parents, only said victim was still assumed missing. So FBI is trying to iron the wrinkles and sent said agent to a special assignment requested by local police force. This time though, to said agent’s hometown where said agent left his boyfriend (with unfinished business). It could have been so good. I was thrilled. What killed it for me was Rain was SO hard to like. He appears to be so whiny and so “woe is me, I just wanna be normal & everything has to fit how want things to be just so”. It got to be so annoying! He’s got some funny wisecracks and his sarcasm is exquisite, I’ll give him that. Danny, oh this dude. I get him. I really do. But I felt bad for Rain too when Danny just flat out refuses to give Rain the benefit of the doubt. He came through in the end, but damn these two like to make things difficult for themselves. The mystery aspect of the story was really good. The lists of suspects, the procedure. It was engaging. I got a kick knowing who the culprit is, it was the right guess I made! There’s apparently a second book in this series, I’ll give that a read. The narrator, Noah, he was okay. He felt flat a few times. And his range of character voices isn’t as distinctive as I’m used to with other books I’ve listened to.
