When Ottawa psychologist and single mother Susan Koss discovers that a strange man has been following her twelve-year-old daughter Maddy, she fears he's a predator. But it's worse than that. The man, Daniel Kazan, believes Maddy is his granddaughter, abducted as a baby—and he's obsessed with getting her back. Susan insists on a DNA test to disprove Daniel's claim, but the result is one she can't understand or explain: it says she's not Maddy's mother. Then Maddy vanishes. Susan's convinced Daniel has taken her, but he has an alibi, and two searches of his house turn up nothing. The hunt is on—police are on full mobilization, and Susan fears the worst.

This book was a bit confuzzling for me.

What I loved:
Canadian setting and places
Good tension

What I didn't love:
Lack of deep character development
Lack of critical thinking on the part of many characters (who gives out the names of their neighbours to some random stranger???)
A 12 yr old who talks and thinks like a 40-yr old woman
A crazy old guy who thinks a 12 yr is his baby granddaughter. How is that possible?
Repetitive repetitive and repetitive.

I want to always love all things Canadian but this one left me a little cold. I did finish it because I am that reader, but I listened at top speed!

Attempts were made....

This was such a scary premise for a mother, but the twist helped with my understanding.

This book has potential to be a really good read but as an audiobook, it's dreadful. The narrator is shocking and has no passion.
